WNBM 103.9 Flipping to Conservative Talk

According to a Cumulus press release, the Urban A/C station will start carrying Westwood One political talk shows on January 3. It will change its call back to WFAS FM, and simulcast on WFAS (digital) 1230 AM. The latter is already broadcasting many of the programs that will be on the FM.
The press release is billing WFAS FM as "The only all-talk FM station in the New York metropolitan area."
WFAS FM

Cumulus can’t find a buyer for either 1230 or 103.9, so why not do this?
I think Univision would probably prefer this signal to their 92.7 that they just sold. WNBM is a limited signal but unlike WQBU, it actually hits the Bronx and Washington Heights audiences they want.

Maybe Univision isn't looking to buy a new signal in NYC.

Now, the WFAS of today is a far cry from the WFAS of the late 1980s and early 1990s, when it was a full-service station that provided Westchester County with local news. At that time, I was a student of Pace University's New York campus, and I would tune to 1230 AM whenever I was traveling to and from their Pleasantville campus. I miss those good old days of local radio.

What??? WFAS is the only all talk in New York on FM?? somebody didn't consider WFAN-FM, WEPN which is sports/talk and WNYC which is News/Talk on FM with NPR affiliation.

So much for the idea of them flipping it to country. I imagine this format will be popular with the folks in Mount Vernon and New Rochelle. Some northern suburbs are pretty conservative. Still the purpose isn't to get ratings, but to clear the syndicated programming.

But if a radio host takes to the air to speak their political view, and nobody listens, did they clear anything at all? 🤣

Conservative listeners, though, just are more willing to want to hear their political positions on the radio than left wingers, who vastly prefer TV or the internet for that sort of thing.

Don't mind me, the statement left me open to make a dumb joke. I'm sure there will be listeners. Just that since Big A said that ratings didn't matter, clearing the content did, that's what made me make the joke.

Though I'm not expecting significant ratings for the new format, it seems possible it will attract some young(er) people that are interested in political talk, but absolutely wouldn't tune in anything on AM radio.

In markets in which the sports station has no FM outlet, those young(er) listeners do use AM.

Along with the sale of WQBU 92.7 to Family Radio, we have news within about a week of two local FM stations that will be dropping music formats.
