"We're approaching our 100th year on the air"

...goes the new WGN Chicago Legal ID, and I must say I'm a fan of them embracing their beginnings. Hopefully they will spend some time looking back and looking fowards as well, and not overlook this important anniversary. By the way, I forgot to hit record, but I will soon link to a video showing that they actually said this.

i wouldn't be surprised if WBAP does the same soon as they turn 100 in 2022.
Yes, that would be great! And WBAP is easier to recieve at night than WGN for me, and so it'll make it a better recording. WBAP definitely has a storied history, yes?

WGN signed on May 19, 1922 as WDAP. Tribune bought the station in 1924 and sold its previous WGN, which had been Zenith's WJAZ on 670, shared with WMAQ. The "old" WGN became WEBH when Zenith (who owned the transmitter, but arranged for Tribune to program it, including the call letter change from WJAZ) sold it to the Edgewater Beach Hotel.

The WDAP/WGN (current) station settled on 720 in 1928, after bouncing around the dial for a few years. WJAZ in all its forms was gone by 1931.

820 WBAP notes "99 years" in their new legal ID.

KFI AM 640 in Los Angeles came on the air before WGN with its first broadcast on April 16th, 1922. Not sure if they have any festivities planned.

Also, KTAR AM 620 in Phoenix came on the air in June of 1922.

right now, they can't really say 100 years cause the 100th anniversary of WBAP's signing on will be on May 2.
And now WBAP has officially jumped ship. I will post the recording shortly
