KOSF's Martha Quinn To Host Middays On 35+ iHeartMedia Classic Hits Stations

Iheart has announced that Martha Quinn is going to do a national show for January 10th. The show originate from KOSF-FM San Francisco.

iHeartMedia has announced that Martha Quinn will host a national midday show across their Classic Hits stations starting Monday, January 10.

Quinn, one of the original MTV VJ’s, has hosted mornings at iHeart’s “103.7 80s Plus” KOSF San Francisco since 2016. Among the stations the new show will be heard on include KOSF, “95.7 The Jet” KJR-FM Seattle, “Kool 108” KQQL Minneapolis, 103.3 KLOU St. Louis, 94.1 KODJ Salt Lake City, and “95.7 Big-FM” WRIT-FM Milwaukee.

Martha Who?????? Lol lol lol. Lot of listeners will be asking this question around the country. So many desperate moves by a massively in debt radio company. Radio companies in America are nearing their highest level of incompetence with a few exceptions. What a shame they have forgotten that its an entertainment medium that is now so very very boring to its remaining listeners. What made Don Sherwood and many others so popular? They weren't stifled by a bunch of wall street investors that only want to pay their CO'S. Radio is so obsolete. Shame.....Imho.....

First of all, iHeart isn't "massively in debt" any more. This show is simply replacing other VT hosts from other markets, not local talent. Lastly, who's to say she's not more "entertaining" than what she's replacing? She's unquestionably talented and very experienced. Listeners of classic hits stations will recognize the name.

Either you are too old or too young to be familiar with MTV from the 80s. Those who are familiar will know who she is. She has had a career outside radio. Why would they bother making a press release if she was so obscure? I fail to see how this is desperate or incompetent.

Well, now hang on—-an 80s format with one of MTV’s most popular veejays, who has maintained a reasonably high public profile since. Seems like a good fit and decent name recognition in the demo nationwide.

You can argue—-well, what you do in fact argue—-but this is along the lines of what iHeart has done with Seacrest. He’s done well over the last 16 years, and not just for the bottom line.

I agree. She and some of the other VJs had hosted 80s on 8 for Sirius for a long time. She left Sirius in 2016 to go to KOSF.

True in Seacrest's case he is best known for replacing Rick Dees from KIIS-FM and Casey Kasem from America's top 40 on the radio side and his show is on Iheart owned CHR and HotAC stations.

On the TV side it's taking over a show that originally featured Regis Philbin and most notably American Idol.

In Iheart's case Martha Quinn is the voice of classic hits radio on Iheart although classic hit stations in this decade will have to add more 90's songs in their mix.

In short, Ryan Seacrest holds every job in broadcasting

5 billion dollars plus isn't a great big nut to crack each month and year to year? Really? How much debt is too much then? The 11 billion dollars prior to the company's bankruptcy?? Just curious. Let's see how many employees are fired in the first month of the new year in order to save money to service the debt for I heart, Cumulus, and the former Entercom now Audacy. Its so sad seeing more and more radio employees losing jobs year after year its absolutely amazing. Radio is better than this. Again its about entertaining your audience not being just a jukebox! We all now have amazing access to any internet jukebox on the web in the palms of our hands and over our smart-TV's. The tiny transistor radio is now through technological advances our best audio source the world has ever known. I never said Martha wasn't a great host, Actually I think she is a great host sorry to have inferred she wasn't.

AT&T has over $147 billion in debt. Companies borrow money to expand and improve, considering that the cost of loans is usually much less than the profit margins on new enterprises.

It was $20 billion, but who's counting?

A billion here, a billion there.....
They told us at the time (before letting 1,500 of us go in January, 2020) that servicing $20 billion in debt was “just like paying your mortgage”.

As to further cuts, I have to wonder what’s left. I thought the endgame would be a takeover by John Malone’s Liberty Communications, but he’s sold his stock.

In a way, they're right. The fact is they met their debt payments every year for ten solid years. None of the staff cuts ever went to lowering the amount of debt. The $20 billion stayed at that number through the entire history of the debt. They never paid down the principle. The staff cuts were made to meet local budgets due to declining advertising, not for national debt service.

Here's a story that may have been overlooked as the year ends:

At one point, Global had been looking to own up to 49%. iHeart viewed that as a hostile takeover. A few months ago, Global announced they were withdrawing the 49% offer. But just a few days ago, they received FCC approval to own 14.9%.

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned KBAY's significant music shift, which occurred today. The 70s have been almost entirely removed and a significant amount of 90s pop and Rhythmic throwbacks have been added.

I think these changes could prove unwise, and might enable 103.7 and perhaps even a station like 98.1 to make gains.
