103.9 Dayton Stunting

They've dropped their long time Alt Rock format in favor of all Christmas music. What comes after the holidays? Will they bring back AC or the more recently departed Classic Hits?

So not sure this is an omen of what is to come on 103.9, but their HD2 channel is currently playing "The Lake" IHeartRadio feed which I believe is classic hits.

With 103.9 exiting Alternative, chances are that void could be filled in Dayton, since I see it ending up on another frequency.

103.9 should've simulcast 106.5 for a temporary amount of time before Big 106.5 went away (to migrate listeners to 103.9), and the Alternative format should've been long gone.

I am inclined to believe 103.9 will indeed be flipping to Classic Hits.

For how much longer will 92.9 hold onto its horrendously performing Jack FM format? Sure would be nice to see a harder rocking station compete with boring WTUE.

I can totally see iHeart plugging in classic hits on 103.9 to fill the void when they divested 106.5.. For an out-of-town signal 106.5 did quite well for them.

Yeah, I saw that report. I about vomited. Would certainly explain why there was no temporary 106.5 / 103.9 simulcast. (And with 94.5's putrid ratings as country, there really was no reason to do a temporary simulcast between those two channels.)

If Alpha doesn't flip 92.9 to Classic Hits if 103.9 fails to pick up the torch, they're stupid.

What Dayton needs is 3 country stations......said no one ever

So not sure I totally buy into this country rumor yet - there is a link given in the report (won't post it as it's behind a paywall) and when you click on it, you are sent to a country station at 103.9 in Arkansas. So perhaps that station in Arkansas is getting a rebrand and it's not for the Dayton station? Just throwing it out there.

Guess we’ll have to see what iHeart will unwrap come Christmas weekend.

I think you are correct - and iHeart may just be parking the new URL at that Arkansas' station website until the flip on Sunday. Interesting to ponder though.....

I can't imagine they'd try country again with the way 94.5 was performing. Classic Hits seems like the obvious choice but I guess with iheart you never really know.

In response to another comment, I always thought it would be a neat idea to bring back the Z93 branding with a Classic Hits format much like Q105 in Tampa. I guess we'll see what happens in a few days.

I had a feeling it would go country when they made the switch to Christmas. Although not as big of a market as it once was, Iheart needs a place in Dayton for Bobby Bones. They have invested a lot in him.

At 12midnight (December 27, 2021), ‘103.9 The Bull” roared into Dayton. First songs were Jordan Davis ft. Luke Bryan “Buy Dirt” and Dierks Bentley “Sideways”.

Not surprised they went country! I had a feeling it would either be country or classic hits to replace one of the stations they divested earlier this year.

I would love to think that Alpha would put Classic Hits on 92.9, especially with that signal, but it's the same boat the iHeart is in. It's cheap to run 92.9 with the Jack format so why mess with it even if the ratings aren't that good. If they flipped it to another format then they would have to spend money to promote and hire a staff. No company wants to do that now.

Sad but true - If only Alpha would revive 92.9 to what it once was. Fond memories of the Z93 days but hey that takes money, and work... Jack is fairly cheap to run though I think they could do well if they brought back the Z93 branding and did a well programmed "Classic Hits" format.
