Cindy Scull Exits Mornings At KEGL

wonder if she's done with radio or gonna do a radio show in another market while staying put in Dallas from her home, or would Audacy hire her for KVIL Alt 103.7 for Mornings or even put her on KJKK 100.3 Jack FM.

and as for The Eagle itself, i guess this gives us a clue at a potential format flip soon, especially after they brought Ben & Skin in from KRLD FM 105.3 The Fan almost 2 years ago in February 2020 and then stole The Mavs from KESN 103.3 (thus setting up the fatal blow to ESPN Radio in Dallas at that station). i wonder if Sports Talk is 97.1's future, cause Scull is now gone from the station and Russ Martin who was the anchor died almost a year ago, so i can see the ratings on the RMS in slow decline cause the show's not the same without "The Bossman" but Dan, Alfie & Clo are doing their best to give a decent enough show to keep listening to, but many listeners quit listening cause Russ was their host (and he's dead), not Dan.

Cindy Scull leaving the Eagle doesn’t seem like a death blow to me. She was a good talent with a long history at the station, but, from what she’s said, she wanted to continue working from home. iHeart wanted her in the studio. So, they couldn’t agree on a new contract. It doesn’t sound like iHeart got rid of her to prime the station for a format flip.

The fatal blow to KESN, by the way, happened about a year before it lost the Mavs. That was when Cumulus decided it didn’t want to keep operating the station and seemed to have little interest in buying it. It has been for sale for approximately the past year, and Disney/ESPN couldn't find a taker who would keep the format.

i wonder if Sports Talk is 97.1's future

Again, it doesn’t seem likely to me. Remember, the reason KESN is leaving the sports talk format is because DFW can't support three sports talkers. Even an operator that specializes in sports radio didn’t want the station. If KEGL does end up flipping to a talk-based format, I tend to think it will be a guy talk format similar to what iHeart does in Orlando with WTKS.

Either they're flipping to Sports Talk, or they're piping in the Woody Show from LA, especially with the other Alt station ditching their morning show.

Question: Blowing up the Eagle to simulcast Sports Talk brings in more millions in revenue than The Eagle? I contend there is not the income growth to warrant this. It's not about listeners it is monetizing the frequency against it's value. No company is going to take less money than they are making on any 'stick' they have.

If the Eagle is doing $8 million, let's say, and Sports Talk on AM is doing $8 million. By simulcasting, is the station going to generate $16 million with the promise of more? I say there is not that much potential. I'm just making up these figures. I do not know what either station bills.

I have my spoon to eat my words if I am wrong. My thinking is based on being a GM and having an owner who was always saying 'how does this make us money'.

Maybe they just wanted her vaccinated...

I wondered that, too, but nobody is saying anything about that.

Most people should have good enough internet to work from home. LOL I could provide good radio audio from my location while using a VPN, and I don't even have the fastest Internet speed from my ISP.

I don’t think it’s just a matter of internet speed or quality. Jocks routinely help make sales, and not having your airstaff in the office can be an obstacle to that. I don’t know what iHeart's policy is, but Cumulus ordered all staff back to the office several months ago. I've been told Cumulus is trying to accommodate people who left their home markets for good reasons, such as taking care of a family member or a spouse who was displaced due to the pandemic, but those accommodations are unlikely to be made permanent.

Uhhh…what simulcast? iHeart doesn’t have a sportstalker in DFW. It would be a new FM only format. You might be thinking of the situation in Houston where you have two mostly local sportstalkers on AM, and the lone FM sportstalker has a bad signal.

Obviously Cumulus is happy with the FM/AM simulcast of KTCK The Ticket.

I worked with Cindy when I was CE of the Eagle from 99 to 01...great talent and she will find something else I bet....but she's more into online trading in the stock market now...she was doing that 20 yrs ago
