WFBC-HD2 and WSPA-HD2 both broadcasting WORD

Anybody know why two overall berh similar signals are simulcastIng WORD? It’s been this way a while. I can see it on WSPA since they don’t have any HD channels but seems a little extra on WFBC since they already have The Block on HD2 and ESPN on HD3.

Each feeds a different translator.

95.1 W236CD (Seneca) is fed by 98.9
101.5 W268DL (Anderson) is fed by 93.7

I remember they added the HD-4 on WFBC for the Anderson translator at the same time they added a different Anderson translator for The Block

Interesting, I had wondered that but I know The Block is fed by WFBC-HD2 on all 3 translators. 97.1 is fed by WORD AM and 97.7 is fed by WFBC-HD3.

Couldnt both translators for WORD just broadcast either WSPA-HD2 or WFBC-HD4? Too bad a Audacy doesn’t care more about their HD real estate in the market. I did see WTPT-HD3 has been turned on for their new BetQL sports network.

A fill-in translator has to be contained within the coverage of its parent station. It appears that part of 101.5's coverage goes outside of WSPA's 60dBu contour, but not WFBC's. That doesn't appear to be a problem for the 95.1 translator. Audacy could use WFBC to feed both, if they wished. Feeding them separately would allow them to split programming or target ads at specific translators. I don't listen to WORD, so I have no idea if they do that, but maybe there's a show that WAIM 1230 has the rights to that needs to be preempted.

I believe that only applies in HD2 simulcasts when both the primary station and the translator are owned by the same company. In this case, they are not.

A non-fill-in FM translator (not contained within the primary station's contour) carrying a commercial station can't receive financial support from that station.
