Your First DX Catch of 2022

Over this past Holiday Weekend I came up with an idea that I thought you guys might want to have a little fun with....

"What was your first DX catch of the new year?" Perhaps this is a topic that Frank or David will want to roll into the existing "Post Your Latest DX" forum. If so, that's fine with me. But I think this is a slightly different animal. What I'm thinking of is, your first DX catch of 2022 (including a re-log) that's not a regular either at your location or on an SDR that you have experience with. Got it? Let's see what we can come up with! I'll go first.....

My first DX catch of 2022 was (drum roll), actually "something I couldn't identify". Specifically, I was checking out the Prince Edward Island SDR (Canadian Maritimes), when I heard tropical music on 550. Good, steady signal. For all I know, it might have been a regular. But whatever, it did surprise me.

"Unknowns" aren't exactly what I had in mind for this. But it's thre best I can do for now. When I snag something "DX-worthy" that I can ID, I'll come back to this thread and share it. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the thread, and if any of you gentlemen can shed light on what I heard last night on an Atlantic Canada SDR, please let me k,now. :)
 
From DFW, Texas:

My first new DX of 2022 -

650 WNMT MN Nashwauk 1/1/2022 2115 CST broadcasting "Hollywood 360" old-time radio program, ID at 2130 CST "Vikings football on AM 650 WNMT". Fair with long fades in WSM null. 1,012 miles at 1000 watts.
 
My first new DX of 2022 came only an hour after midnight on New Year's Day...

990 Radio Guamá, CUBA, Pinar del Rio, 1/1 0058, fair/good in jumble w/salsa mx //stream.

I've been hearing Cuba better than usual for the last month. I ID'd Radio Progreso on 750 for the first time about 10 minutes later.

It was KRRZ 1390 Minot ND a couple early mornings' ago. It was after 2 AM early Sunday morning 1/2. Lots of classic hits, and finally a faint ID '1390 KRRZ' in the jumble. 1000 watts.
Hopefully the next one is KQKD 1380 Redfield SD when the DX test happens in a couple of weeks.

I'd be more than delighted with KNX as my first ID catch of the year. Especially since you suggested right now might not exactly be a great time to chase CKWX. But I'll take whatever I can get! Meanwhile good luck with the KOKD test.
 
On AM, the first new station I heard was 1580 WWTF in Georgetown, KY "97.7 Lexington's Rock Alternative" at about 4:30pm January 1, which is 600 miles away. They run 10 kw directional to the south.

On FM, I received 91.5 KRNE Merriman, NE at 7:20 pm 1/3 airing NPR "Fresh Air". Later at 8:12, there was 91.1 KTNE Alliance, NE playing "Performance Today". I wouldn't have been able to identify these signals without the RDS displaying "Nebraska Public Media". Both stations are almost the same distance, 1082 miles from Picayune, Mississippi. It was nice to hear E-skip outside of the usual summer months.

Here in San Antonio I heard KHAT in Laramie, WY, for the first time ever at 7:27 a.m. on Monday morning. The station was playing current country music and must've just gone to 10 kW day power. The signal was weak and in/out for a few minutes, and the songs matched the KHAT webstream.

I was listening on my Digitech AR1870 (XHDATA D-808 clone or vice versa) with a Terk Advantage loop antenna. Distance was 896 miles.

My old nemsis!!

I lived 1 1/2 miles from the KOWB 1290 site and KHAT is just 1/4 mile beyond that.. with no filtering for either station at either site.. wreaks havoc all over town, especially close by
 
1430, KTBZ, Tulsa, OK, the old KELI Top 40. 25,000kw days, 5,000kw nights. Caught here in central Texas north of Austin, in the Georgetown area. Was carrying CBS Radio Sports. 380+ miles.

Used to hear that one (then-KELI) as a teenager in the Chicago area in the '60s. Sharing 1430 at night with WIL (Saint Louis) and WIRE (Indianapolois).
 
My first new log for 2022 and quite unexpected one. After a tip on Facebook that WLOY AM 660 stayed on past sunset playing oldies I managed to get an ID at 2310 CST as "WLOY FM 93.3" . Very poor signal and mixing with WFAN. Some WSCR slop also present. Best heard in USB mode.
 
At 11:35 p.m. CT, there's something under WFAN with music and English-language talk, but no IDs yet, and no stream to match a snippet to. Tonight's quest! Thanks, CADXER!
