WNPV coming back on the air

The problem for the new owner is the studio & tower for the radio station was sold to the local school board next door:

https://www.thereporteronline.com/n...cle_d686296a-c855-11ea-99c4-1780c25eef52.html

The application is to convert from commercial to non-com, which is a good idea since the previous owner was having trouble making ends meet as a commercial station.

The suggestion that it will just rebroadcast Word FM makes sense to me, since that's what Four Rivers is all about.

I've wondered about this since they first announced the two deals. North Penn School District bought the property adjacent to their current school. The license was donated to Four Rivers. There is no mention of changing city of license or moving the transmitters. The towers are at the edge of the property on Snider Road in a residential neighborhood. The school district has no immediate plans for the property. Will North Penn make a deal to let them use the transmitter/towers until they decide to use the property off in the future?

Also, wonder if the programming will be the same as WPAZ (AM) Pottstown which is still called 'Word FM' but is traditional hymns rather than the Adult Contemporary Christian 'Word FM'?

I would expect for practical and legal reasons, they would charge Four Rivers rent. I imagine Four Rivers doesn't need the studio building.

Try to earn back some of the money they paid for the land. That appears to be the intent of the seller.

1370 sneaks into the area. But seriously, ANOTHER religious station ?? I tally at least 9 on am around here.
Alas, like WBUX , the good ole days are gone.

Sadly most of the old full service am's are especially in the smaller markets, its more costly to keep them that way and domnt make a profit. Like WBUD 1260 the good ole days are gone.

Never been a believer in "the good old days" trope. These days are fine. Those days were fine. Different eras, different needs, different tastes.

Maybe you weren't around for the good old days. Maybe for you, as Carly Simon sang, "these are the good old days." You'll have to salvage what you can. Things aren't likely to get better.

I've been around many days. They were fine. So are these. Different doesn't mean worse. Change is a part of life, and I can appreciate the now just as much as the then.

True. But different doesn't always mean better either. In an on-demand world, change for a past-its-prime industry like terrestrial radio is generally negative to those who experienced the industry in its 'glory days.'

It's all a relative view however. I've been reading the 1991 investigative book "Hit Men" about the graft and corruption (payola) endemic in the record industry and radio that started in the 50s and likely continues today, even in noncommercial music formats. The good old days can be viewed through rose-colored glasses. There was corruption then, as there is now. In all walks of life.

Great points, and totally agree on the rose-colored glasses. Lots of good, lots of bad, in all things. I grew up in the full-service on AM era--but I wouldn't find that appealing now. WIP was a constant in our house and car. I'd never pick that style now. Not knocking it for its day, not knocking what's available today. Just...different.

WNPV 1440 AM and 98.5 FM are back on the air. I stumbled on that listening during the week. No commercials at all. Top of the hour legal id's states 80's music without the long hair. Wonder who the owner is and how long this will last? Haven't seen an updated website, or live stream.

Its owned by the Word FM network people now.

The 80's music has been running since the summer of 2021. The only exception I heard - on June 30th they ran live the dedication ceremonies of the new North Penn High School stadium - then went back into the music without comments. I'm wondering if the school district is running the station? It seems strange that Word FM would own it and not put either of their formats on there, Word FM Contemporary Christian or their Hymns of the Faith feed that is on the old WPAZ. There are no commercials or fund appeals so no money is coming in but no air staff or advertising either. The AM is on lower power than it was before the 2020 signoff.

So, SO glad to hear something - anything playing back again on 1440/97.5! Extra special kudos to the DJ(s) who play blocks of Rush! Never heard that before on 1440/98.5. Now all we need back are Darryl B., Joe L., Jeff N., Barry P. and all the other cast of characters back! Then life’ll be good 😁

I picked up WNPV on my Walkman from my room on the 7th Floor of the Alloy Double Tree Hotel on US 202 in King of Prussia during my stay Wednesday-Saturday. It was staticy, but listenable. Interesting mix of commercial free music. One of the songs I heard was Good Vibrations by Markie Mark and The Funky Bunch.

Wikipedia is wrong. It states the station is currently silent and is expected to begin airing Word-FM programming in October 2021.
