NFL is very sketchy

Since the NFL is registered as "Entertainment" and not sports, they can legally manipulate the outcomes of games. For people who believe the NFL "soft" fixes games, plenty of ammunition today in the results.

Indianapolis inexplicably loses to Jacksonville. Pittsburgh wins in Baltimore to get a playoff spot for retiring quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. If The Steelers suddenly go on a run to the Super Bowl, it would appear extra help came their way.

***If the Raiders and Chargers play to a tie tonight, they both make the playoffs. That would eliminate Pittsburgh. Theoretically, they could collude and do this...

I've heard the same said of MLB and the NBA and NHL. Normally the rumors about those leagues having a hand in the outcome of certain games are more prevalent during the playoffs, when some suspect the leagues with best of 7 playoff and finals series of having the teams or officials give an advantage to one team or the other to "stretch" the series, for a few potential reasons - To avoid a "lull" in between the finish date of one round of playoffs and the beginning of the next; To hold the fans' interests longer and keep it truly "entertaining" rather than having 4 game sweeps occur too often, and; To avoid losing the revenues for the additional 3 games if the series ends in only 4. That includes ticket sales, revenues for the hosting arena/stadium, income from ad sales and the like. Common sense says that if this were true someone would've most likely squawked by now. Also, lots of things like individual stats would potentially be impacted, and it's not likely that everyone would readily comply if there were any serious attempts to "fix" games or their outcomes.

Back to the NFL: Fun fact - The NFL's league office enjoyed "Tax Exempt" status for 73 years, until the league voluntarily relinquished that status in 2015 and began paying taxes.

There's 50+ players on each of the 32 teams. The idea that all players in the NFL would keep this secret over multiple years is far fetched. All it takes is someone being cut or retiring and being upset at not getting farther into the playoffs because they were "told to lose" and they'd blow the lid off of it. Not to mention that some players have contract incentives based on stats or amount of snaps - they are not going to play bad when they could lose money.

This has been an ongoing rumor in pro sports for atleast over 100 years. Actually some were not rumors, it actually happened in professional baseball. To say we are free from it today is unlikely, but generally the NFL runs clean. The risk of losing huge revenue keeps it running by the rules. That said, I believe the NFL really likes close games and there seem to many more close games in recent years. Hmm.

The NFC Title Game is now The LA Rams vs The San Francisco 49's! Both last slot Wild Card Teams! Two West Coast teams! No Tom Brady, No Aaron Rogers in the Super Bowl! Guess Roger Godell must have torn up the script at the last minute again 🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣

The Rams were division winners, not a Wild Card team. The Super Bowl is in LA.

The first 3 games this weekend all came down to the very end. 3 point victories. That's sort of like a wrestling script. I don't believe the games are fixed, but plenty of people do. Probably the same ones that don't believe election results...

I was secretly hoping we'd get to see LA vs SF just for the irony of it 😜

Attention being placed on the NFL's overtime rule after Sunday's Buffalo-Kansas City game:
There is a reasonable argument for both teams getting at least one possession of the ball during overtime in football. Take baseball for example…what if a game went to the 10th inning, and the visiting team scored a run, and the game was then over.

The CFL’s latest Grey Cup championship was decided in overtime, using rules similar to those in American college football.

Attention being placed on the NFL's overtime rule after Sunday's Buffalo-Kansas City game:

Buffalo fans claim foul, but didn't they supposedly have the league's best defense?
Buffalo wasn't "denied any chance of victory".
The defense is allowed to make a play. Cincinnati intercepted a pass against Tennessee late in their game. The Bills couldn't make a stop with 13 seconds left. They knew the overtime rules.

Let's say they change the Overtime rule. The Chiefs score. The Bills get the ball and tie it again. Now what? Kansas City gets it and scores again. People will whine that KC got 2 chances and the Bills only 1. When does it end? How about instead of a coin flip, place the ball at midfield. Put the players 20 yards from the ball. Blow a whistle and have a scrum to see who gets the ball first.

Maybe the games are "staged" as entertainment. Nobody played defense in the Buffalo--KC game...

Now that's entertainment!

Yep the defense did not come out to play, it looked like. How on earth does one leave Travis Kelce wide open in the middle of the field? That's worth a solid butt chewing during the offseason.
If I had to propose one rule change for overtime, encourage laterals, and every incomplete pass would be ruled as a fumble. That would incentivize those defenders, wouldn't it? ;)

I have learned to accept that the NFL is officially an "entertainment" venue, and can do what it wants. If it gets too rigged, I have the power, as a fan, to just find something else to do. Probably play Madden on X-Box 🤣

When was the last time the Rams and 49ers played in a conference championship? I don’t remember it ever happening. But I could be wrong. And I’am. 1990.

Certainly a lot has occurred since this initial post..... Brian Flores, fired as Miami head coach.
Filed a lawsuit against the NFL and alleges some games are 'fixed." Looks like those who think
it couldn't be so, MAY, just be proven wrong........

Flores claimed the Dolphins owner offered him 100,000 dollars per game to "lose on purpose". That's a strong accusation, so he must feel he has the evidence to prove it. He didn't say he went along however.

Last week, the Chiefs quarterback Mahomes looked totally inept in the second half against Cincinnati. He sure looked like a guy "shaving points". (I don't believe he actually did, but it was a bizarre performance for a great player).
The NFL does have some credibility issues, especially with rules and officiating...
