Live From Atlanta?

Could Atlanta be the new center for radio syndication? Certainly, The Bert Show and Adam Bomb already use Atlanta as the base for their syndication. A few months ago, Westwood One launched Kincaid & Dallas from WKHX. Now that same company is launching a new CHR 7-midnight show, and they say it will originate in Atlanta:

It’s Official: Westwood One Launches ‘Eliott & Nina’ For CHR On Monday.

Does that mean Atlanta will hear it on Q99.7? There's currently a personality hole there now. We'll know Monday.

Zach Sang had mostly aired on Cumulus stations in (smaller) markets, WSSX/Charleston, WHHY/Montgomery, WZNS/Fort Walton Beach, etc. I don't think he ever aired here. However since this new show is based out of Atlanta, it very well might air on Q after all. 🤔 Guess we'll see.

Brian Phillips is quoted in the article, and I understand he has some influence. He may be the reason why the show is originating in Atlanta. Zach Sang was based in LA.

Has someone found a loophole in the Georgia film and TV production tax credits to include radio?

Upon a plain reading of the rules, the tax credits only apply to "film, television, and digital entertainment", with the latter seeming to require a video component. But what if someone offered a video feed of the show online? Would that make the entire (or a significant part) of the production qualify for the credits?

Well, the last several times I listened at night, Q99-7 was just automated with no jock, which is really poor for a top 10 market so hopefully they'll take the show.

Zach Sang was a really young show, and Q99-7's numbers have "matured" to the point where that show would have been inconsistent. I'm hoping Elliot & Nina will be a good fit, and the station will air it.

My theory is the station wanted to add a host, couldn't find enough money locally. So the local PD asked BP if they found a good team for the local slot, could the company help with a way to pay for it. This was the answer. Zach was a great show, but wasn't growing. So he became vulnerable when his contract ran out.

On the Urban side, The Morning Hustle from Reach Media is based at the HOT 107.9 studios.

Also, “Young Joc and the Streets Morning Takeover” from SuperRadio is based atvthe Streetz 94.5 studios.

Erick Erickson at 95.5 WSB is now syndicated. He is "technically" based in Atlanta although he says he is in his Macon home a lot.

A few weeks ago, I saw an ad in a trade publication promoting Erick Erickson to potential affiliates. The list of affiliates in the ad consisted only of the 4 Cox News and Talk stations. So apparently, Erickson has had few if any takers.

So many shows are replacing Rush on stations across the country that I'm sure it's hard to get clearance from noon to 3.

On Twitter, he pretty regularly touts his show’s performance in Atlanta against how Rush’s other replacements are doing in top 10 markets.

And most of them are corporate mandates. The only major broadcaster I'm aware of that didn't do a corporate mandate was Townsquare.

So advertising to individual PDs is kind of silly.

One of my stations carries Erickson and we're proud of it - even if a certain hard-core % of my audience isn't. As for affiliate strength, he probably only wants to list large-market affiliates in his marketing pieces.

I don't think I'm talking out of of school when I say that he needs a larger staff if he wants his company to enjoy bigger syndicated success. He's got a lot on his plate to also be calling stations in Idaho and lining up per-inquiry filler spots.

What Jeff said - we are also proudly carrying Erickson on one of our stations, albeit on tape delay. Personally, I wish he had not been forced to move the syndicated show to Noon to accommodate the WSB gig, we would have gladly taken him at 9am.

Very true. His 9am show was perfect. A replacement for Beck and something no other big stick had. Rush's death was horrible in 100 different ways.

Some influence is an understatement. He's the Executive Vice President of Content and Audience overseeing all of Cumulus' programming decisions.

Glad you're proud of carrying Erickson, Jeff, but I just want to make clear my comment was in no way meant to be critical of his show.

I'd love to see Cumulus dump Adam Bomb from its Adult CHR in Detroit. His evening voicetracks, show, whatever it is...is BORING. Barebones production values + milquetoast banter.

Is the new syndie show airing on Q99.7 any good?
