Anyone remember the old KYLO-105.5

Yep, "protected contour" was one of many things I learned from that- they explained about other stations from the area that came in well "although it may be possible to receive them, reception is not protected." Still a rather messed-up system though when there's bleedover to other frequencies, but such was analog. I listened to a lot of San Francisco stations then because the ones in Sacramento were so bad, but a few here actually got better for a bit and then stations everywhere just got worse, though now you can get all of them online no matter where you are.
But regardless, that station (KYLO in its oldies format) didn't know what the heck it was doing, which made it more of an "insult to injury" that they were blocking the station I really wanted to hear. If you enjoyed hearing technical problems though, they were the station for you. The one good thing they had later was Dr. Demento, but they botched that by playing it with distorted sound- they said they were getting it on RECORD (and this was in the early 90s, apparently a lot of syndicated shows were still sent out that way!) and their stylus was going bad! (I usually listened to it on KFOG and of course they never had that problem.) And naturally the station "cancelled" that show later while it continued on KFOG, I don't think it was ever on again in this area.

I saw that truck again in Nevada City. Here's an old sticker from KYLO. I'd seen it and always wondered where the station was. Now I know. Back around that time a "KILO" used to mean something. I can see, given the nature of the format, where they might have made some suggestive comments around the call letters. This was about the time of KOME's heyday, right?

Your guess is as good as mine, but I suspect so. Seems like airchecks of the old KFAT are plentiful, but I haven't heard of any KYLO recordings. In fact, I didn't even know the station existed until I read this thread.

Yes, that sticker is from the country era. I think later their logo was a guy on a horse, before the change to a religious format. The YLO stood for Yolo County. Kind of hard to find any info about the station now ever since one of the newer Star Wars characters was named Kylo.
Interestingly Google Maps mark this location as the KLCQ-FM tower in Davis even though KLCQ no longer exists. But this is off Pedrick Rd. In Dixon, CA. I was going to guess KDRT or KDVS as the stations having a radio tower in Dixon given that this is closest to UC Davis. I was also going to say it's the Dixon Shortwave towers but that is on the Southside of Dixon along CA-113.

Who is currently using KYLO's old radio tower as of 2022. I tried to look at some of the Dixon,CA locations for radio transmitters but was left blank because either the station xtmrs are in Woodland, Davis, Fairfield or Vacaville. However the Dixon Shortwave transmitters are located on the south side of Dixon which was at one point managed by NBC and the VOA. This old KYLO Tower has been identified as KLCQ-FM but KLCQ-FM is a KLOVE affiliate in Colorado.

Turns out the former KYLO-FM/KLCQ-FM XTMR site is now owned by American Towers LLC for cell phone reception covering the Davis and Dixon areas.
