Blame it on Santa (holiday 6+)

https://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb057

KEZ number one-est again in this throw away survey.

In many markets the formats taking big hits from All Ho-Ho-Ho stations are NewsTalk and Country. No exception here in the BuckeyePlex. But Santa wasn't very nice to KTAR, placing them #14 in 6+. YIKES! KFYI was down as well, but scored the #8 position. KNIX down, KMLE up. And the WOW Factor? Didn't blink at #4.

Okay...everyone move on now, nothing to see here.

Except for KJZZ, which was up. Almost up 75% from its share from October.

And it is an amazing 29th in 25-54 with half a share and a rating of 0.0

In 35-64 is waaaaaay up to 27th overall with an astounding 0.7 share.

But in 65 to death, it is n-n-n-number wuh-wuh-wuhn with a 22.7 share, more than triple the #2 station with Santa and the Elves playing all-time year end favorites.

I'll bet they sign every de Soto and Olds dealer in the Valley of the Sun after this!

Wow, that’s bad.

Those KFYI and KTAR numbers should climb back up. After all, who wants to listen to a bunch of COVID talk and anti- Biden rants when sipping egg nog, decorating the tree, and just getting into the Christmas mood.

KEZ with that monster holiday rating should consider doing Christmas music all year long... NOT!

That's a head scratcher, seeing KJZZ in the number 2 spot. So does that mean NPR is preferable to listen to than conservative talk during the holidays? KPBS in San Diego also hit it big. While KOGO dropped substantially.

Some stations have tried the year round Christmas music. It hasn’t worked out too well for them because, shockingly, people only want to hear Christmas music during the holidays! Now as an HD-2 format, it definitely could work (and has in other markets).

I think what the numbers show is that a lot of the conservative talk and country music radio listeners shift to the all Christmas music stations in the month of December. Accordingly, those stations drop in the ratings while KEZ, KYXY and KOST rise!

KTAR made a huge mistake going all right wing dipshit radio.

92.3 is essentially chasing away all their listener to 91.5. It's like a real-life "Miracle on 34th St.," but instead of going to Gimble's, they go to 91.5 just for some news - any news. I miss Anklarlo, I miss Pat McMahon, I miss Paul Harvey - I miss all the talkers who made 92.3 great. Bonneville should be ashamed of themselves for what they did to that station - a city this size, and 92.3 is our flagship news/talk station? It's an embarrassment.

...not to mention AMC dealers. You saw what the Wayne's World Pacer sold for....imagine the price for the Buckeye Gremlin? Ours has a condiment dispenser built into the dash and burn marks on the passenger seat from Nurse Jeff's flatulence. 🤢

Given the state of Country music today, that's no surprise. They should take a lesson from 94.1.

Keep in mind just a few months ago, KNIX was one of the top stations in Phoenix. Obviously not related to "the state of country music today." Where is The Ride in the ratings?

OK I admit, that was my personal opinion. But I just checked that ratings list and.....yeah, where IS The Ride? Same thing with the other rimshot KSWG. I can only surmise that a) They're not counted in the ratings book due to being out of market, or b) not really considered commercial stations. All of 94.1's ads seem local and home-made. Killer signal though, even picked em up by Tucson. (I do kinda wish I could get KWSS here in Mesa though. Oh well.)

Wondering aloud if KMLE has done something really ground-breaking to pull in new listeners, or KNIX has done something really dumb to lose them, or if it's just a matter of one of the ratings pagers falling into a household that prefers one to the other.

I'm kinda leaning towards the last one, but I admit I haven't been listening. Maybe the station at the end of the dial launched a compelling national cash contest or hired a new tracked talent that's burning up the airwaves with stellar tease/payoff content.

They hired a new PD a few months ago. Perhaps it's related to adjustments he made.

But also the country format tends to drop in December. It's as dependable as an oil leak in a Gremlin.

You have to take the holiday rating book with a grain of salt. Up is down, down is up as a lot of the country music listeners, news/talk listeners and classic hits listeners shift to the all-Christmas station. It’s not like all those KEZ listeners come out of thin air and magically appear to lift KEZ to astronomical double-digit rating heights! They are pulling listeners away from other stations and those tend to be country music stations and other similar formats. Wait for the January and February books. Things will return back to normal in those books.

There are only three reasons for a station not showing up, even if out of market: 1) not subscribed, 2) not encoded, 3) no listeners.
