The SMALL World That Is The DXing Hobby

For those of you unaware, I live in McGrath, Alaska managing the day to day operations of an NPR Radio station, KSKO, serving about 500 miles of the alaskan interior.

I'm a member of another hobby site and facebook page, HFUnderground. Geared towards, well.. HF/SW but we do talk AM radio there.

On Friday, someone I didn't recognize popped by the radio station but vaguely knew my name. We got talking and it turns out he's an HFU member. He was here in McGrath to fix some equipment for the FAA.

Wow! 500 miles? What set up do you use to receive it that far?

That’s more than KBHR 570, which only got out 200 miles with my the new facility on the roof of the studio. :)

WE have FM Repeaters spread out over 200 or so miles and an AM station that carries us some of the day

Just like how I made contact with KC2DUX last year, and it wasn't until I looked him up and I remembered he was the one who conducted the WNJC DX tests in 2021. It was nice to see him over the airwaves. I guess I got that instead of the DX test, haha.
