I'd be surprised if KAAY is running sideband. Especially after the fire along with needing to replace the ground system.Could it be? A clear-channel running IBOC at night? (Well, there is KRLD, WTIC, KSL, and KTSB, but still...)

KMOX did early onI'd be surprised if KAAY is running sideband. Especially after the fire along with needing to replace the ground system.
I can't speak with 100% certainty, but my guess is that KMOX is in a much stronger financial position than KAAY. which has struggled recently. But who knows?KMOX did early on
And now I've recieved word that KAAY will go 80 watts ND nights. 🤯I can't speak with 100% certainty, but my guess is that KMOX is in a much stronger financial position than KAAY. which has struggled recently. But who knows?
Are we talking IBOC sidebands or just adjacent channel splatter?I'd be surprised if KAAY is running sideband. Especially after the fire along with needing to replace the ground system.
Nice CatchDFW, Texas
Got a San Francisco two-fer this morning, 2/11/2022:
680-KNBR 6:20am CST Fair and steady with KFEQ nulled and KKYX not yet on day pattern. CBS Sports Radio program, ad mentioning Palo Alto, and KNBR 680 ID. This is a relog, but much clearer than the first time I heard them.
740-KCBS 6:28am CST Weak in the mud, with radio aimed west away from KTRH, which was very weak also. CBS News, "... on the 8's", and KCBS ID heard at 6:30am. This is a new log, although, I'm pretty sure I heard them before, but could not get a positive ID.
Quite a comedown from the days when KAAY was beaming programming to Cuba during the Cuban missle crisis. And now I've recieved word that KAAY will go 80 watts ND nights. 🤯
Sheesh. And I thought FM'S were safe. And it's not just AMs. FMs are already relocating and becoming hideously directional to remain licensed.
*Panic increases*I have a friend though who is convinced that another Class A AM facility will soon lose its site.
Good for him! We need more people invested in AM, even if things look bleak right now. Dude does not buy into the doom and gloom stuff! He is preparing to build a tower for another facility nearby, and he is doing it with the anticipation that the Class A facility, with the new 275 mV/m @ 1 km @ 1 kW minimum efficiency for Class A being met at least, and will be able to move there. .
Are you in a KFXR null?DFW, Texas -- Sangean ATS-909X
New stations logged this morning, 2/14/2022:
680 WPTF NC Raleigh 0603 CST Raleigh weather, NC news items. Weak in KFEQ null. Raleigh SR is 0600 CST.
900 WKDA TN Lebanon 0618 CST Ad for memory care center in Lebanon, 615- phone number. Weak.
1180 KZOT NE Bellevue 0555 CST KZOT ID, mentions of Omaha, CBS sports. Fair in R. Rebelde null over KTSB IBOC.
Not new, but I did hear 1190-WOWO also this morning with "Wo-Wo Traffic" and road conditions at 0628 CST.
I am ~20 miles WNW from the KFXR transmitter site. I can barely hear them at night and aiming the radio NNE (towards Ft. Wayne) effectively nulls any remnant of KFXR's signal at my location. Are you in a KFXR null?
KMOX is tied for first in billing in St Louis. KAAY is barely 20th in much smaller Little Rock, estimated to be doing less than $20,000 a month... while KMOX bills about 20 or so times that.I can't speak with 100% certainty, but my guess is that KMOX is in a much stronger financial position than KAAY. which has struggled recently. But who knows?
That's kind of what I thought, but not knowing for sure, I tried to couch my remarks in general terms.KMOX is tied for first in billing in St Louis. KAAY is barely 20th in much smaller Little Rock, estimated to be doing less than $20,000 a month... while KMOX bills about 20 or so times that.
I seem to remember KAAY carrying Garner TedThat's kind of what I thought, but not knowing for sure, I tried to couch my remarks in general terms.
I'm not sure to what extent, if any, KAAY was ever a cash cow. Certainly their top 40 format was interrupted from time to time during their broadcast day by paid religion. I also knew a guy who worked in sales at KAAY who told me (in the 70s) that Little Rock was prone to price wars. KAAY had the "entertainment rate", "beer rate" etc., which could sometimes get into "dollar-a-holler" territory. But currently $20k a month....wow!
