Early thoughts on KIRO 7’s Aaron Wright?

I know it’s a bit early; he needs time to settle in. His delivery is smooth and he does a clean read. Thus far, however, I’m not seeing a ton of charisma or chemistry with Monique Ming Lavin. I’m seeing her try to draw him out a bit, but so far he’s not taking the bait. I admire the visible diversity KIRO has at the anchor desk so it works out.

Seattle has always had what seemed like non-traditional broadcasters on air. Not huge broadcasting voices. No Pukers. Mike James and Aaron Brown on KING. Gary Justice and Steve Raible on KIRO. Dan Lewis and Eric Johnson on KOMO. Some of the latest hires have been more in the vain of the traditional news reader. Steve Soliz on KING. Aaron Wright on KIRO. Preston Phillips on KOMO. I have never been a huge fan of that kind of voice talent.

....and is it just my deteriorating hearing, or did we decide in recent years that a dominant lisp is a requirement to be in the field or at the anchor desk?

No, we have decided that everyone does not have to have that booming, radio-type voice to be a television journalist.
