Any thoughts or observations?
Give Dave a chance, will ya? They just haven't played enough of Centerfold or Jack And Diane yet! KISQ would rather play 80s ballads no one cares about instead of these truly well-tested tracks! Even KOSF isn't playing them enough, even though these songs are widely beloved from Detroit to Tampa and Boston to Austin.Cue up Hal 9000 compute voice from 2001: A Space Odyssey…
“The Bay Area is not impressed with you, Dave. I’m going to have to cut the power to your transmitter if your ratings don’t improve.”
KOIT, KISQ, and KIOI seem to do well for Gold-leaning stations. And I'd say KOSF is overruled by KBAY in the South Bay.I thought the usual rock leaning Adult Hits playlist of KITS would be a nice fit between KOSF and KSAN, but that doesn't appear to be the case. While the commerical stations don't compete with non commerical stations for buys, I think it's very clear the success of spoken word KQED-FM (not to mention KCBS/KFRC-FM and the KNBR pair) is taking away the amount of shares available for the music stations, and it seems the gold formatted stations suffer the most from it, seeing KOSF and KSAN aren't as succesful as other Classic Hits and Classic Rock stations in the country and Adult Hits on KITS has been a total dud.

Re-look at the page for San Jose: the iHeart stations that were previously missing have been reinserted. And did KYLD stop subscribing to the San Jose ratings?
But they can easily extract the Santa Clara County data from the San Francisco book using the Nielsen software. Santa Clara County is part of the San Francisco market. it is what is called an "embedded market" which means that Nielsen issues a separate book from pieces of a larger market to benefit radio stations that don't cover the whole market.Note: not all the stations home to San Francisco are subscribed/listed in the San Jose market.
I believe they still subscribe, even though KDFC seems to be missing from the topline listings on a few sites I checked. According to this source, KDFC went 3.5 to 3.1 (10th place) 6+ in San Francisco. I couldn't find cume information for KDFC in SF, and I still haven't found any info on how they did in San Jose.Did KDFC stop subscribing?
KOIT & KIOIWhat are the top billing music stations in the San Francisco market
Not.KOIT & KIOI
Why? It is very solid in 25-54. And it is top 5 on average in 18-49!Pretty impressive that KISQ was able to achieve top 5 billing with an older skewing format.
The fact that they're able to have such success in those demos is definitely impressive given the reputation Soft AC has in other markets for being old skewing and hard to sell. Whatever iHeartMedia is doing for KISQ to succeed in money demos and not just 6+ is clearly working, so congratulations to them. Why? It is very solid in 25-54. And it is top 5 on average in 18-49!
Maybe it helps that most of the songs are sung without an autotune. LolWhy? It is very solid in 25-54. And it is top 5 on average in 18-49!
