Is uptempo music making a comeback?

For several years now (starting in 2016 about and peaking around 2017-2018 though lingering for several years after), pop and alternative music has been downtempo mainly. Pitchfork even wrote an article here: Are We Having Fun Yet? On Pop’s Morose New Normal. Ross on Radio has also commented about downtempo pop being the norm. Some of the top songs in 2017 were Logic's "1-800," Kesha's "Praying," "Too Good at Goodbyes" by Sam Smith and Selena Gomez's "Lose You to Love Me." Even alternative had top hits like "The Night We Met' by Lord Huron and "I Hope You're Happy" by Blue October. But are things changing? The last few months I have heard uptempo songs from Alesso, "The Motto" with Tiesto ft. Ava Max and several other "danceable" songs. Are things picking up?

Dua Lipa, and The Weeknd have certainly upped the tempo of Top 40. The Weeknd just announced a stadium tour on Friday. Things are hot at top 40.

Huh. A comeback?

I guess I hadn't realised uptempo cuts had gone away.....

Pro tip: make a concerted effort not to come out of an uptempo record into a death dedication...
What would you prefer, a funeral dirge?
What about someone who died in New Orleans? Those wakes are legendary for uptempo music. Celebration of life, and all.

The original reference was to an infamous recording of Casey Kasem ranting about having to segue from an upbeat song to a sad "long distance dedication" on American Top 40.
From what I hear, Kasem frequently berated his producers and production folks. Somebody just happened to be rolling tape at that particular time. Toward the end of his run, Kasem had turned into an insufferable a$$hole. Some of that may have been signs of his un-diagnosed Parkinson's, but over the years many think he was just a jerk.

Ever heard Negativland's controversial "U2" and "These Guys Are from England and Who Gives a tihS" EP/albums? Worth a listen....

Happened to be or intentionally rolled to get the juicy bits?

I wasn't there, but they rolled on everything. Difference here was in this case; some of the B-roll was let out into public earshot. Remember, these were the days before social media as we know it today. I'm confident more would have been going viral had modern social media and doxxing-your-boss-for-being-a-jerk were around back then.

DIdn't Howard Stern somehow get ahold of that?
