For several years now (starting in 2016 about and peaking around 2017-2018 though lingering for several years after), pop and alternative music has been downtempo mainly. Pitchfork even wrote an article here: Are We Having Fun Yet? On Pop’s Morose New Normal. Ross on Radio has also commented about downtempo pop being the norm. Some of the top songs in 2017 were Logic's "1-800," Kesha's "Praying," "Too Good at Goodbyes" by Sam Smith and Selena Gomez's "Lose You to Love Me." Even alternative had top hits like "The Night We Met' by Lord Huron and "I Hope You're Happy" by Blue October. But are things changing? The last few months I have heard uptempo songs from Alesso, "The Motto" with Tiesto ft. Ava Max and several other "danceable" songs. Are things picking up?
