Lowest KUBE ratings ever, in December PPM

I believe it's still the loop directing former KUBE listeners to 106.1 with shortened CHR songs.

As far as why the stunting is still going on, maybe they are revamping, or putting additional changes in place. Of course, they could just simulcast KJR. Unless they have other plans for the AM. Once again, more questions than answers.

Great questions.

Another thought: maybe they want to launch on St. Patty's day?

What type of programming is airing on 93.3 today?
Why would Saint Paddy's day be important for a radio launch?

Note: "While the holiday is sometimes spelled "St. Patty's Day," some find this to be offensive as "Patty" is a shortened form of the female name "Patricia.""

Where I live, the rock and sports stations before COVID used to do daylong broadcasts from Irish bars. I have no idea if 950 KJR has anything planned.

The longer this goes on, the less I'm buying a flip to sports. Lance Venta noted in a commentary late last week that on the iHeart app and website, if listeners wanted to hear the KUBE-HD2 stream, they would not go to the stream that has the KUBE name and logo, that would take you to audio of the stunting 93.3 signal. Instead, they would have to find the stream with an unfamiliar logo. What logo is that though?

IF 93.3 goes Sports as KJR-FM, the KUBE calls could easily be brought over to The Jet. The KUBE calls only need to be mentioned once an hour, to keep The Jet identity intact.

Yeah, I know ..only radio geeks care about call letters. But those are cool call letters (that spell out a word). And there's the long history behind them. A brand that's been around since the mid 80's. Would hate to seem them disappear.

If 93.3 flips, they'll probably move the KUBE call signs to a sister (like KJR-FM) or warehouse them somewhere on the other side of the country.

That was Venta's point, though. If you followed iHeart's on-air instructions and searched for "KUBE" on the iHeart app, you'd get two hits and two similar logos, one for the current KUBE-FM and one for the HD2. That HD2 logo you posted is the second hit, literally smaller than my own thumbnail, and in reality most people looking for hip-hop would punch the first hit (93.3) instead of the HD2 feed they really wanted. It's a user-interface FUBAR on iHeart's part and indicates retaining fans of the old format is a very low priority.

If iHeart wants to leave the calls as is, they could do what Cox did in Atlanta with WSBB-FM being the simulcast for 750WSB and the WSB-FM calls staying with B98.5. Same in Chicago where WCFS 105.9 is the simulcast for WBBM 780 and the WBBM-FM calls were left for B96 the CHR station. In San Francisco, the KCBS-FM calls were left in LA at 93.1 Jack FM, and the KCBS simulcast on FM retains the KFRC-FM calls. If the format is a KJR simulcast, iHeart could leave The Jet as KJR-FM and 93.3 as KUBE.

I find it hard to believe iHeart would wait to start building a studio and setting up shop for a sports station as mentioned earlier in this thread AFTER a stunt starts. If it’s a KJR simulcast, what would even be needed other than a rebrand and a few switches flipped to pipe the audio going to 950 to 93.3 as well?

I don’t think the facilities are the holdup here.

The biggest ($$$$ betting) sporting event outside of the Super Bowl starts on the 13th. Just sayin'

All of the big local Native American casinos now have been approved for sport books and are ready to open their ad budgets to get folks in the door. Just sayin'

Your competition is crippled by the baseball lockout? Just sayin'

You want a big event to kick off your new sports outlet? 3pm on Sunday is "March Madness Selection Sunday" Just...well, you know

93.3 flipped to a simulcast of KJR-AM at 12pm PST on 3/8. There was a quick 10 second countdown which led into an intro and the hosts talking about the change.

One thing they mentioned is that 950 will be carrying sports for another month or so, but didn't lead to what was next for them.

Some of us suspected this was a distinct possibility weeks ago, even as a few folks suggested we were out of our minds for questioning KUBE's performance & value to the cluster! 😅

This is the right move for iHM and for 93.3 FM. Might take a couple to few years to make noise, but long term, this could prove to be quite a profitable venture.
