Does anyone know the true story behind Channel 9's refusal to air CBS game shows?

One factor of course Carol Randolph’s long running local morning show (a local DC forerunner to Oprah actually) titled Morning Break here was pretty popular and successful until 1986 when not only did Gannett take control of WDVM but also cancelled Randolph’s show in favor of Oprah.

Of course a substantial amount of the DC market technically wasn’t entirely without Price is Right as next door neighbor WBAL carried it.

I suspected that the manager(s) simply despised game shows. Thanks for clarifying.

With at least one of WBAL and WTVR available OTA and on cable in most of the DC market, WDVM felt like they could pre-empt TPiR and other CBS game shows
