Troy Aikman expected to join ESPN's MNF.

Hall of Famer Troy Aikman is expected to leave Fox Sports to become the main analyst for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football,” The Post has learned.

Aikman’s ESPN deal will be for five years, according to sources, and his yearly salary is expected to approach or exceed the neighborhood of Tony Romo’s $17.5 million per year contract with CBS. The deal is not yet signed, but it is near completion.

ESPN declined comment.

Troy Aikman did an interview with the Dallas sports talk radio station The Ticket yesterday that's making a lot of news today:

This sort of confirms that they already had someone picked for that spot.
They are also letting Joe walk a year early. I wonder if they were planing for this.

Wow, OK here's the story: Joe & Troy to become new team at MNF:

I imagine Buck would also do the ESPN baseball games, as he did with Fox.

I wonder if Fox will subcontract their baseball to MLB Network and use Bob Costas.

Will Fox go after Al Michaels. Joe will probably become the lead at Sunday Night Baseball.

I think Amazon has more money than Fox. If that's the way this goes. In any case, I don't think Fox would have let Joe go without a plan ready to go. And since baseball season starts in a few weeks, I guess we'll know soon.

I don’t think Fox was planning on ESPN swooping in for Aikman but they knew Buck was following at some point.

If I'm an executive at Fox, no, I'm not hiring Al Michaels. I'd go for someone much younger, perhaps Jason Benetti who is a very good broadcaster for the White Sox (along with some college basketball and baseball on ESPN)

I do not think Joe Buck will be doing baseball at ESPN. He has publicly expressed the idea of retiring from baseball in years past.

Michaels is still a household name who’s not slowing down. He still wants to be in the Super Bowl rotation.

So much for Monday night football now. I'll watch Manning Brothers on ESPN2 as I'm sure many others will be doing next season. I don't see why ESPN almost every season changes MNF broadcasters. Joe Tess and Steve Levy were good.

I liked Levy. The problem is ESPN could never find the right group.

It's a unique way of televising a game that may (or may not...) be any good to watch in the 'typical' way it's presented.
