Has KING settled on Soliz?

No doubt he reads a solid script, but is he “it?” It would be unfortunate if KING didn’t give Jake Whittenberg a crack at the chair to test chemistry between him and Joyce and also to see how viewers are responding. Plus, Jake, perhaps more than any anchor in the market isn’t afraid to use social media to reach out—an expectation that is solidly emerging by viewers. I like Soliz, but try him at the morning show.

I doubt they would move Jake into the evenings since Mornings is the new primetime in local news. Plus with all the neck and neck ratings race for 1 they wouldnt want to rock the boat with the mornings.

Good point. I just think that morning schedule would be less appealing overtime.

Take a look at the mornings in the market all been in the positions for YEARS. Joyce was a 20+ year veteran in the AM on KING and before that KIRO, Though she had a few years in the evenings on KIRO & KING

Yes, Taylor wanted to do evenings so badly earlier in her career, but she always found herself being put back on mornings. at KING and KIRO. (And let's not talk about Julie Francavilla!)

Honestly, KING has a strong am team with Jake and Mimi. I think they will try to keep them there for the moment. This is probably a "trial" period for Steve to see if the ratings hold steady or increase in the evenings.

The Jake + Mimi team has a ton of chemistry, which I'm sure is why they're doing the whole morning show instead of half of it.

Soliz strikes me as a good, mid-career choice to slide into the lead anchor spot. But chemistry counts and this could be a low risk trial to see how it goes. Joyce has been tough to pair a male anchor with over her career. Most notorious was her pairing with Allen Schauffler, who could do anything at KING and work seamlessly with anyone except Joyce.

Agreed totally. I follow Joyce and Steve on FB. Based on their posts, they appear to be trying very hard to be friends with each other. Joyce said that she was thrilled to be anchor with her friend Steve and Steve said that he was thrilled to be in Western Washington anchoring with his friend Joyce. FWIW...

Creepy.

How do you know they aren't? Or maybe they are friendly colleagues? What's wrong with that?

Hmm...I was under the distinct impression that the stations and esteemed media consultants wanted us to engage on social media.

As of a couple weeks ago traffic anchor Shante Sumpter has added anchoring duties by taking over the 430-500a newscast from Mimi & Jake who continue to anchor from 500a-900a

He sounds exactly like the new guy over at KIRO, Aaron Wright. Not the usual NW voices at the anchor desks--more of the prototypical
"broadcaster" sounding vibes. They seem like they will grow into the jobs. Wright seems a way better fit with Monique than Soliz is with Joyce.

Saw Seattle news a few days ago. I think Aaron Wright at KIRO was a good move. He seems quite professional and likeable at the same time. Soliz definitely is decent, has a command of the anchor desk but as others have mentioned how that plays with Joyce we shall see.

As for sets/graphics, no changes at KING with those ugly Tegna graphics, perhaps about to change. Slight modification at KIRO, atleast since the last I viewed, adding some yellow to the package. Of course Fox13 has gone to the standard Fox O&O graphics, boring but clear. Didn’t notice any set changes.
