KROQ, again

But he is still heavily involved in Audacy's alt format in NY and at the national level.
My comment was intended to apply only to KROQ, since this is ostensibly still the Los Angeles board.

My thinking is that Kaplan is still with Audacy due to contractual reasons. If I were him, I would start updating my resume. It's not a good sign when you've been relieved of a position, and your former co-workers are allowed to publicly celebrate your removal. There's no way you can still feel you have any job security.

They're not "former co-workers," they are former employees. As we've said in this thread, that celebration may be by design. It's not unusual for radio management to allow staff to attack management if it's good for ratings. Rebelion is core to the alternative format.

He might still need to polish his résumé up though. The phasing out of responsibilities and powers is generally not a good sign.

KROQ did play Tool last night and are breaking out some classic artists this morning like Depeche Mode and The Clash. The plot thickens…

Audacy stations in other formats generally do a Sunday morning gold show, so that may be in the works for alternative.

I haven't seen Foo Fighters in the playlist yet.

Not sure what's more sad, the posturing, or the fact they think there's an audience left that buys into it and needs them to fill that void.

Active is not a healthy pool of music. So again, we're back to a gold basis. And at some point it's going to create the exact same issues Kaplan was trying to solve.
Just what I was thinking. If this doesn't improve billing (and ratings in the right demos) within three or four books, all these happy campers may be history at KROQ and sending their resumes and airchecks to the Show Killer, wherever he may be.

Surprised KROQ hasn't had a Sunday morning gold show yet. The 2 San Diego alternative stations both have one. The Legends of Alternative on Audacy's KBZT, and Ressurection Sunday on 91X.

That’s Post-Modern with Scott Lowe. KROQ is not running that program today though. They’ve been running it since February 2020 so it’s omission today is interesting…

Foo Fighters spun early this morning, late last night, and yesterday afternoon. They’re generally combining the current (“Love Dies Young”) with two classic tracks spanning from the original 1995 LP to 2011’s Wasting Light.

This is a huge misunderstanding of the dynamics at work in this situation. Reference HotPatrick's post earlier in the thread.

Note to KMR: sometimes national topics are relevant on local boards, and from time to time will come up in normal discourse.
Nevertheless, Flipper, my comment should be taken in the proper context now that I have clarified that. Kaplan no longer matters to what happens at KROQ going forward at the PD level, and whether or not he was responsible in any way for the departure of talent when he was PD is not relevant to what happens going forward.

Do stop trying to get the upper hand with me, please. You keep holding on to grudges over things that happened a couple of decades ago. Let it go. I have.

Maybe, maybe not. It could all just be an act.

There has been too much focus on just one guy, with the assumption that if he goes away, the result is no one is in charge and the DJs are free to do anything they want. I doubt very much that it's that simple.

Which brings the question, exactly who is in charge right now of KROQ, and the changes being made? Is it interim, while they look for the right person to succeed Kaplan.

I wonder how much involvement, if any, there has been from the very top in this whole alternative strategy from David Field. It’s been no secret even back in the Entercom days (pre CBS) that he loved alternative, and after taking over the CBS stations it was well known that alternative was by far his favorite format and he seemed to get the ball rolling with the whole “Alt” thing and flips to alternative and was very invested. There’s supposedly a rumor that it was put on WTDY-HD2 in Philadelphia so he could listen to it on an Entercom/Audacy station.

My advice to both - leave the moderating to the moderators. We're all (supposedly) adults here. Different points of view should be given fair consideration - not used in a game of tit for tat.

Miles Anzaldo is MD and APD for KROQ, They also just promoted Chris Ebbott to VP of Programming and Operations for all stations except KROQ. He basically has the job Kevin Weatherly had:

Then there's the market manager, who oversees all of the stations. And then there's Kaplan himself who is still national format captain, even if he's not KROQ PD. And his associates are John Allers and Christy Taylor, who are also VPs in the format.
