His role on the hit sitcom was just one of more than 100 film and television credits; he was also a fine jazz trombonist and co-owner of an art gallery.

While most all the media outlets mention Janis as Mindy's dad on Mork & Mindy, he had tons of bit parts in lots of TV shows and movies from the 1950s through the very early 2000s. He's one of those actors who's face many recognize, but probably few can name more than maybe a few specific roles they saw him in.

I remember seeing him on a news program in the 1990s complaining because he'd purchased a house that was a "Bob Vila House", renovated by Vila back when he hosted This Old House. Turns out all the programmable lighting and home automation systems didn't work or were malfunctioning, and Conrad Janis was belly aching because he contacted the manufactures to get support, only to be told they gave their products to Vila's show for free in exchange for a few mentions, the systems they gave to Vila's show were prototypes that were never really supported and Janis was more or less on his own.
