New Calls For 1090 AM, KPTR

Just for history sake, remember that the 1090 calls were KING-AM for many decades. Middle of the Road format (today known as lite AC), in the late 50's and early 60's, then a radical change to top 40 in the early 70's with a competitive attempt at KJR and KOL as 11-KING. Eventually, falling back to soft rock in '80, then to news talk, then to oblivian. The station might not mean too much today, but for decades was a major player in the Seattle market. Hi, I am your Dad!

Son, you may have your whippersnapper Top 40 Middle of The Road Oblivion Talk Radio. But I still remember KVL. What a station. You'll never know good radio until you hear it on a 1924 Atwater-Kent Three Dialer. With a big horn speaker. With all kinds of squealing noises and static. Listened to Aunt Jenny's show every afternoon. Brought to you by Spry Shortening.

Oh no. You kids can have your KEVRs and your KJR 11-KINGs. And your newfangled Glenn Miller music. I'll just sit here and play "When The Red-Red Robin Comes Bob-Bob-Bobbing Along" on my Edison Disc Machine......Sigh!......

Taking 1090 to Conservative Talk makes sense for I-Heart revenue. They can clear inventory on multiple Premiere Talk Shows in Seattle, many of which are not here or buried at night elsewhere (Hannity, Beck, Travis/Sexton). That is instant revenue to the company, plus they can sell weekend programming. Assume KPTR/Patriot? will not do well in the ratings with conservative talk tanking in Seatle KTTH at a 1.6 and KVI at a 1.1 in Feb Book, but as Kelly and other posters point out, it is about revenue, not ratings. While there may (debatable) be room for a Progressive talk in Seattle, I-Heart doesn't have a lot of Progressive Talk Syndicated programming.

1090 isn't doing well in the ratings RIGHT NOW. With Fox Sports. So it really doesn't matter what they put there. It will get less than a share, and nobody will care. Just like BIN. But the shows will get another Top 50 market cleared, and that's all national advertisers want.
