KRTY-FM Los Gatos has been sold

If Alpha wanted to do Country, they could combine KEZR and KBAY into a single format and flip one of them. All they'd have to do is add some 80s and 90s to 106.5 and flip 94.5 Country (or vice versa) but they can't seem to keep a stable format on KBAY so I'm thinking 94.5 would be the station they used, assuming they wanted to. How well did KRTY bill? It might have been the top station in the market last book but that doesn't always mean money. That said, Hot AC and Country often market well together.

I know KUIC may be linked to KKDV and KKIQ, but I believe Vacaville is part of the Sacramento DMA? I know Solano (save for Vallejo, etc) isn't really frequently considered to be the Bay Area, though some Bay Area commuters have moved into Fairfield/Vacaville for relatively low cost of housing.
Vacaville and all of Solano County -East are part of the Sacramento DMA for TV, but for radio they are part of the San Francisco MSA.

That's sad people going to turn on there Radios in there cars or at home on 95.3, Hearing K-Love not Country

It's mostly the same really. One is just more about booze and drinking, the other is about God. Both Country and Contemporary Christian come from Nashville. The artists all repeat the same words and phrases over and over, a lot of Christian DJs actually got their start in Country radio. Some Country artists even record CCM songs (Lady A's Hilary Scott did an album, Thomas Rhett recently did a duet with Chris Tomlin. It's actually in a way very similar.

What if iHeart wanted to flip one of its San Francisco stations to Country?

However in Solano County-East the Sacramento area radio signals can reach the county very clear given that some of the Sacramento Valley radio transmitters are in Walnut Grove where the TV stations are. In fact I seen Cap Radio, Iheart Sacramento (KFBK) even put billboards for their stations in Vacaville and Dixon.

Well in reality Solano County today has to deal with Sacramento and Bay Area commuters at the same time. Sometimes I-80 in Fairfield is jammed in both directions because the freeway has to respond to both Sacramento and Bay Area commuters who live in the county. This has to be like Temecula/Murrieta area where they have to respond to Inland Empire, San Diego and Los Angeles commuters at the same time.

The billboards are probably for the Sacramento listeners coming home from the Bay Area. Any Dixon or Vacaville residents listening to Sacramento stations would show only in the San Francisco ratings, if it’s significant enough to meet the minimum reporting standards. The Sacramento stations would not benefit from this.

I’m sure that people in Dixon probably listen mostly to Sacramento stations along with Vacaville’s KUIC.

As far as the FCC goes, the market they consider KUIC in is what Nielsen counts it as, San Francisco.

Alpha *CAN* declare KUIC as Sacramento station with Nielsen in order to reduce their Bay Area station count. It probably won’t affect the revenue much since they probably rely on Solano business and not Bay Area agencies.

Can't say I disagree with your analysis. Also explains why EMF is moving its HQ to Nashville. The psychographics for both Country and Christian music line up very closely.

Then-Entercom hasn't had success with 95.7 The Wolf. But Audacy has thrown a curveball and flipped WDZH in Detroit abruptly to alternative after the demise of the alternative format in CIMX.

While I get that Audacy may make boneheaded decisions, as does a lot of the larger operators, the company is intelligent enough to know that this is not a road that they want to travel down twice.

Audacy owns a lot of major market country stations. In fact their station in Houston is the top billing country station in the entire country. So some of their markets know how to sell the format. The NY staff was just inept. Cumulus made more money when they owned the station. But Audacy's real problem is an inability to create something new, as evidenced with KITS.

I'd agree with this assessment. Dave FM feels like more of something that'll keep the transmitter warm than anything else.

With that said, I was more specifically referring to bringing country to either 105.3 or back to 95.7; demographics have changed even more unfavorably since, I cannot imagine that a second attempt at country would perform any better.

Texas is not New York or San Francisco.

That's not the point. They shouldn't shy away from doing country somewhere because they couldn't sell it in NYC. That was a NY Sales problem, not a company problem. They also have a high billing country station in Chicago. But sure, San Francisco has unique problems, and it would help if they had a better national plan for the format, the way iHeart has. If iHeart had an open frequency, I think they'd put country on it just to add another Top 10 to their country platform. Right now, iHeart's SF cluster is just too successful.

The fact that Audacy can't make a sports FM work in a Top 5 market against Cumulus says a lot to me.
