What is going on in westport? KMXV is the lowest in years, KBEQ is failing and KFKF used to be a dominating station. KCKC is a bad AC, always was. the ops manager should be FIRED

To be fair, ‘Star’ performed pretty admirably against KUDL, despite changing morning shows several times after Monk & Kelly left.I'm guessing a lot of Steel City's problem is that it runs current-based formats on all of its signals at a time when current music is down. Alt 96.5 seems to be spiking, but pretty much every other new music focused station is performing poorly market wide.
102.1 has struggled for almost 30 years now. The old KY102 probably should've jumped on the active rock bandwagon when it was a new format, but 98.9 beat them to it when “The River” dried up and became “The Rock.” KQRC did immediate and severe damage to KY102, which found itself squeezed by 98.9 and KCFX. It also was an expensive station to operate. Dumping the format, however, didn’t help much. It cut costs but has never been able to sustain any success in terms of audience.

He was the consultant of a group of stations I was at in Kansas (I believe he still is). Glad I had the chance to meet him a few years back. Really is one of the best in the industry! Definitely can learn a thing or two from him.Star did okay for a few years, but I remember the numbers going down after Zellner left and never consistently recovering. Monk & Kelly were either the second or third morning show on the station, and mornings were always a weak point for the station. They were the morning show there when I left KC. I, personally, thought they were horrendous on-air, but I really felt for them after they were pushed out. Losing their jobs and health insurance while having a special needs kid would've been something I couldn't have handled.
When Jeanne Ashley was on middays, it was consistently strong in that daypart, but it didn't hold her audience for long. It tried moving her to mornings at one point, and that didn't work. I was driving into KC her first day back on middays, and you could hear how happy she was to be off the morning show.
Disclaimer: Jon Zellner is a friend, and I might be a little biased in his favor, though I think the numbers and his success afterward back up his ability to run radio stations.

Last time I checked, I think Monk is GM of Viking’s cluster in Lawrence, and Kelly, I believe, has a position there as well.
I like KCKC pretty well. What is going on in westport? KMXV is the lowest in years, KBEQ is failing and KFKF used to be a dominating station. KCKC is a bad AC, always was. the ops manager should be FIRED
KFKF aint going classic country. IF anything the lowest rating country station out of the three KBEQ should go classic countryKFKF should just go classic country if you ask me. That format isn't covered in the area since 1030 was sold and changed to Spanish.
Q going classic country is not happening. During the last near 3 decades playing country, they’ve always focused on a younger audience heavy on new music. If anything, they’d stretch back to the 90s and 2K while mixing in currents.KFKF aint going classic country. All the steel city stations are doing well from what i can see. Companies don't make decisions off of just one book
I think three country music stations is a little too much. But they all seem to be doing well. KCMO and KCFX both look low compared to the ratings they used to getCorrect. Plus, at one time KFKF was a little more classic leaning. Its ratings went way up after it reduced the classic country and didn’t seem to affect Q104’s, at least not much.
