KBAY Flips to Country

This is a much bigger signal... the 60 dbu is almost up to the Bay Bridge, covering almost all of Alameda and San Mateo counties and looking even better on a Longley-Rice pattern: https://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=5c8ed6f09f274a0ea065c1b6063ebeb7&map=Y

KBAY is another San Jose station that had lost 2/3 of its revenue since 2015, like most of the general market San Jose stations. This gives them a chance to position as a San Francisco station as it can show much better market coverage.

TERIFFIC!!! 😃

This is outstanding news for area country music fans! 94.5 covers more territory than 95.3.

I'm a little surprised by this move given KBAY's recent format adjustment to a more uptempo and rhythm friendly version of classic hits.

I did not see this coming, admittedly. I am thrilled to be wrong! I really thought the outlook was bleak for Country to reappear.

I wonder if 106.5 will make any modifications to its playlist?

KBAY generated pretty good market wide ratings just a couple years back, even reaching mid 2's in share at one point. 103.7's improvements took wind out of their sails (and maybe "sales" too!).

Will the former KRTY personalities appear on the new Bay Country?

Radio jocks may not mean much as they do in the past, but KRTY has had a connection with the local community, being a locally-owned radio station.

It's an interesting choice, because the station seemed to be adjusting its music mix after changes at KOSF. Thy had a pretty bad showing in the Feb book.

K-Bay really wants to own that big Country audience When they looked at the numbers, they saw a chance to increase revenue, going Country over their previous format Despite the drop in billing over the years, they will own Country in the Bay Area, and increase revenue even more with a big presence in SF and the East Bay. A smart move on their part.

I don't get why they didn't flip Mix 106.5, like people would be sad to see another Hot AC gone.

Doesn't look like it, according to the article they will add the Bobby Bones show to mornings.

RAMP adds more details:

So, KKDV flipped as well... that's cool.

I wish they didn't go with Bobby Bones in mornings. Hopefully that move will be reversed with time. That said, beggars can't be choosers. 🙂

Is it just me, or is sister station Mix 106.5 darn near CHR/Pop these days? How long has that been the case?

Well with these two moves, this could finally benefit Dave FM a bit. There are alot more pros than negatives for these business decisions.

Listening online to Bay Country, and I really like what I'm hearing so far. They are playing the fake country sparingly and the good stuff plentifully. Processing sounds pleasant and so does the imaging.

I don't think that will happen since Mix 106.5 has Brooke & Jeffrey. That is probably one reason why they did not flip Mix 106.5.
