David Allan Boucher & Bedtime Magic - 40 years on WMJX

I am not from Boston but I'm a longtime fan of David Allan Boucher. Local love songs shows like Bedtime Magic are a rarity these days, although there were similar programs on many AC stations around the country up until Delilah's meteoric rise in the late 90s/early 00s.

It's also amazing to me that Boucher has kept the same timeslot on the same station for 40 years now! He started on WMJX at the station's inception in January 1982, and he's still going in 2022.

How much longer do we think Audacy will keep David Allan Boucher on the payroll before replacing him with Delilah, a younger syndicated night host, or just going jockless at night? Considering all the airstaff cuts they've made in other large markets I am pleasantly surprised they haven't forced him into retirement.

Delilah is a satellite delivered Premiere networks syndicated show that is currently on iHeart's WSRS in Worcester. I can't see Audacy wanting to pay Premiere (iHeart) for it nor WSRS wanting competition with listeners in metro west.

Delilah.... good God NO NO NO NO NO

DAB will ride it out til retirement, I don't think Audacy/Entercom is THAT dumb but then again they sh*tcanned Nancy Quill without any thought so anything is possible.

At one point, under Greater Media ownership and management ( who knew what the bleep they were doing... I have not seen Audacy handed any Marconi Awards lately) was grooming the lovely and talented Audrey Constant to take over for him at some point. She was his designated fill in, and she has the voice and personality for that type of show. IMHO she would never leave WATD to go back filling in for or taking over nights IF it was offered to her.

DAB does a lot of things well, OK he does it all very well, including getting the people who fall asleep listening to him to still have their radio tuned to 106.7 when the clock radio alarm goes off in the morning...

Former WMJX fill in Mike Roberts would be a perfect fit in that slot a few years down the road, he is young enough to do a 20 year stretch in that time slot

DAB has such a following that Audacy would be crazy to get rid of him. There would be a backlash, petitions, and negative publicity for the station. I would bet that DAB is the most well-known Boston music radio personality outside of morning drive, and he’s perhaps better known and more popular than some of the morning drivers in the market.

Delilah bounced around from place to place, breaking contracts all along the way until someone figured out the "Queen Of Sap" could be syndicated.

WVBF was just one stop, as was 99.5 WSSH

For a while his show was simulcast on "Magic 98.3" WMGQ in New Jersey, when both it and WMJX were owned by Greater Media. Well, not so much a simulcast, but rather co-voice-tracked. They replaced him with the syndicated Leeza Gibbons show, and now just have local DJs voice-track the shift.

I was once in Sacramento and heard him voice tracking there.
