why?

It is a station that normally has a listening audience in double digits

Now it is testing AM Digital, it sounds great, it covers a lot of ground, and if is the first step or one of the first steps in trying out Digital AM in order to save and revitalize the band I'm for trying it.

Is your specific objections to the technology or the format?

BTW there is a much larger longer thread already going on the subject @DavidEduardo can we merge them?

Yeah, stations stream. Good reason to turn off that FM transmitter, too, while they're at it?

Streaming isn't everything, and it's far from glitchproof. Last time I tried to use one on my laptop, it never connected. The circle kept spinning and spinning until I exited the page. They probably prefer you to download their own app on your phone, so they can take up more of your memory space with their bloatware and spy on all your data while you listen to their commercials.
 
As much as I love my vintage radios, I would much rather have AM continue on as a digital service than to die completely.
 
Anyone with a report (or recording) of how the latest "AM" HD radios cope with thunderstorm interference when receiving an all digital "AM" HD signal (how quickly does the radio relock to the HD signal after signal loss due to [severe] impulse noise interference)?

Here, about 10 years ago, Radio Disney was on 1190AM + HD, but I never tried reception during one of our super thunderstorms.

Who said anything about streaming? Do you know what a translator is?
I want to hear a full-power FM station go all digital.

Did you even read the post I was replying to?

The guy said "Plus most stations stream."

His point apparently being that HD on AM isn't necessary because the station probably streams, and chances are high that the AM station has a translator as well. And my point was that not all AM stations' streams are bulletproof. And my point about loading apps onto your phone (whether it's to hear a station or not) or onto your computer is valid. A lot of apps are free because they are making you the product. I.e., selling your data.

And most FM stations with HD are already digital, technically, although it's IBOC digital. You can hear the digital signal on an HD radio. As soon as it senses a digital signal my HD radio switches to digital on FM.
 
An all-digital FM station could fit twice as many subchannels as a hybrid station.
