Michael posts new Construction Permit on 104.3 in Kimball

According to fccdata, anyways. On September 13th, Victor A Michael, who previously owned 88.3 KBHM in Kimball (license canceled in 2015), launched a new CP on 104.3 for 26kw, to be located either just north of Downtown, or East of Kimball in Dix. Here's an interesting read: Draft Copy « Licensing and Management System « FCC

It's not set in stone yet, but at least it would give the town (pop 2.5 kw as of 2020 census) it's own radio station for the first time since 2015. Something I find hilarious, by the way, is that when I did my own field study on September 14th, KBHM was still technically on and noticeable by my radios, but just not broadcasting anything.

Submitted September 27th, a new document proposes some clarification om the technical aspects of the tower. The station also proved to not interfere with KKFN's 60 dbu contour. (Ironically though, the map provided suggests that the 40 dbu contours of both stations will intersect in Cheyenne.)

And now there's more to the saga: Michael also applied for a NCE station on 88.1 FM yesterday. What crazy times we live in! I wonder if he plans to drop one of the stations?

104.3 was officially granted on December 19th, 2021, and was given the call sign "KIMB" (taken from the old 1260 AM) in March 2022. Interesting that KIMB was chosen here, as Michael also owned that station as well.

No, not relly that interesting.. Vic was one of several owners of KIMB 1260 and what is now KYOY 92.3 when it was in Kimball.. he only owned the AM so he could mvoe the FM out of town.

the new 104.3 CP i think is using a tower Vic owns.... which is, i think.. an old KIMB 1260 tower.

1260 had multiple owners including NE Coloradio Broadcasting, Steckline Communications and Legacy Communications (owned by former Grand Island mayor Jay Vavricek).. and thats just in the last 10 or 15 years before the AM went dark and got deleted.

All I recall from a few years back was the tower near Dix along a gravel road out of town was where possibly 88.3 was listed. It was off the air because there was no reliable internet service and other options were too pricey for the station to 'afford'. Maybe that has changed now. As I recall that stick was pretty short. I think Vic owned it. All I can imagine is this is one move of several to move the frequency where he wants or it is secured to block anyone else from coming in. Then again, in Kimball, Nebraska, finding a frequency is not such a tough thing to do.

Vics game plan with the non comms is file for CPS where he had a commercial station interest....get a non comm station cp, then move the commercial station.. in some cases.. the non comm cp was never built
