107.9 Sacramento

Another reason for 107.9 to go with Classic Hits despite the competition with KCCL, would be signal superiority. From looking at two different coverage maps, KCCL doesn't cover the growing eastern suburban area very well. Outside of their 65 dbu is Citrus Heights, Carmichael, Roseville and beyond on the I-80, as well as Rancho Cordova, and Folsom. Correct me if I'm wrong, but iHeart will be restoring 107.9 to it's original 50 kw. If your an FM Classic Hits listener in one of those very populated areas, which one of the two stations do you think they will be listening to?

yeha.. but.. is there money in that.. are the demographics there to support this classic hits idea?

A big yes on that! Apparently almost half of the listeners to Classic Hits are 18-34 years olds, as well as being strong with 25-54. It's all due to the still growing popularity of the younger demo and their fascination with the 80's. There's a thread on the LA forum "KOLA-FM" that has later posts in it, that will explain better I can. Read specifically the posts from K.M. Richards, who has experience with the Classic Hits format.

That's not how the RAB presents it. According to their survey, 17% of the classic hits audience is 18-34. 50% of the audience is 45 to 65.'

Some classic hits stations are doing well with 25-54, but a big chunk of that audience is in the upper half of that demo,

The younger demo fascination is with the 90s, not the 80s. So radio stations that program 90s music are the most likely to get good numbers with 18-34s.

Ask Audacy. KRTH is quite successful. Sacramento has neither a full market Classic Hits nor Adult Hits station, but two rather male driven Classic Rock stations, with KSEG having high available cume.

So, youre comparing los angeles to sacramento? two entirely different cities. Why just because it works in one place, does it mean itll work somewhere else?

dont you think if someone could make good money doing classic hits a second station will be doing it? if by some miracle 107.9 goes classic hits, then people will complain its bland boring and not local.

They are different markets and I have lived in both of them as well as the Bay Area and worked in radio for years.. I certainly believe Classic Hits would do better than an additional Country station going after KNCI’s 4 million.

I believe Sacramento has more in common with the other CA cities than those of the midwest.

Furthermore, you’re assuming that this station would be dull and boring as a classic hits station. Why? From what I have heard, iHeart has been shopping for some local talent for this station,

Next you argue that if Classic Hits we’re financially viable, someone would be doing it by now. Format opportunities come up from time in strategic studies from to time to time. That’s how the KSEG -Eagle 96.9 and the KDND, now KUDL, the End came into existence.

I see a well programmed classic hits station taking listeners from KYMX and KSEG. Those stations have the highest cume in the market. 540,000 and 402,000 respectively.

KNCIs cume: 260,000.

And doing a multi-book average, KRTH looks this way...

25-54 17,600 AQH persons
18-34 7,900 AQH Persons
18-48 15,900 AQH Persons
12+ 34,400 AQH Persons

So 40% of the audience is over 55. Just a bit over 20% is 18-34.

That pretty well matches the data you posted for this particular station!

I want to add that the rimshot Classic Hits station in Sacramento (KCCL) is community focused and has several veteran hosts. The only disadvantage they have is their inferior (actually better than expected) signal and that their a stand alone. I’m surprised to this day that they sold KMJE.

I was going to mention that also. Yes, it's only 6kw but the way the terrain slopes up to the East around here it's unobstructed to a decent population.

About a month ago, this "39 year old female" right here got an invite to their online format find perceptual survey. I don't know for a fact it was them, but who else would be doing a multi-format montage test along with perceptual image questions about the music montages?

107.1 The Bull suddenly stopped publishing the corporate Facebook posts on April 3. Why? Were those posts redirected to a new page not yet published for 107.9? Does it suggest something else? It's very odd to just stop posting automated content to a page like that. It might also mean nothing.

KSTE doesnt have an FM signal, right?

Move 107.1 over to simulcast KSTE

Make 107.9 The Bull
