KRBQ now plays the JAMS

I agree with the evolution description. 102.1 was already playing much of this music. By no means an earth shaking shift.

I've viewed music logs within the past 90 days.

About 70 percent of the playlist was stuff I'd consider compatible with a hip-hop "throwbacks" station. The remainder consisted of older Rhythm AC / Urban AC artists or some odd balls that defy genre labels.

I thought the station sounded good the way it was, personally.

Yeah, they are pretty much back to what they were before they went to "the new q102".

The 2019-21 "Q102" format emphasized R&B more than rap. The "new" Q102 playlist stretched as far back as 1971, with "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" by the Spinners. It's hard to find pre-1975 music on commercial radio nowadays.

Lately in the ratings, KBLX had been beating out (slightly) KRBQ in the ratings with similar music. Audacy must have seen that the market was lacking for the 1970s/80s R&B vs. 1990s/00s rap.

Why changed the name from Q102.1 to 102.1 Jams?

Will this retool format work again? Remember the Q102.1 from 2015 to 2019? Will this format be another burned out classic format?

"102.1 Jams" is a homage to KMEL's old "KMEL Jams" brand from the 90s. (Similar to how the 2019-21 "Q102.1" had a similar logo and format as the old 98.1 Kiss.)

It was time for a change, Q102 was sort of a weird name anyways. It does not help that there are 2 other q102's across the country, especcialy in these times when there are Alexa's and google devices.

I'm surprised the "Jams" branding wasn't used for 94.7 in the NYC area. I think it would've been more effective.
