99.5 The Wolf

So what does Preston have to gain by lying to an internet media outlet that focuses on country radio?
I'm not claiming anyone lied. I'm just relaying what I heard. Many people only listen for a few minutes at a time. You better have the best variety in that few minutes, rather than all 2010s like I heard.
The same publication I referenced earlier, Country Aircheck, compared the playlist of KPLX with co-owned currents-based station KSCS, and showed the breakdown this way:

2020s: 64%
2010s: 31.6%
2000s: 4.3%
1990s: 0%

So you can see there's a big hole for KPLX with its new music policy.
Yup.

I see nothing wrong with playing three or four songs from the same decade so long as they don't share the same texture. All bro country or all country rap or a mix of the two would chase off most of the older listeners, but an all-'10s set including, say, FGL's "Cruise," Miranda Lambert's "Heart Like Mine," Luke Bryan's "I Don't Want This Night to End" and Kenny Chesney's "Celebrity" would contain enough variety to keep most of the listeners tuned in through the one song they're not crazy about because, after repeated exposure to the station, they'd sense that a song done in a style they like is likely to be played next.

I'm just a fan -- of country music and radio -- so obviously, if you're a professional, you are much more likely to know what does and doesn't work. I'm just throwing the idea out that decade doesn't matter in putting together a modern classic country playlist so long as there's a difference in styles.

We are mostly in agreement here. But the programmers have to keep in mind the 15 minute listeners as much as the 3-hour listeners.

They’ve dumped their country countdown on Sunday morning and instead they put Impact Texas from 5am-6am and country music the rest of the day

The April ratings for Dallas were released Monday, and KPLX made a huge jump in share, from #11 to #3.

The 4.4 is the station's largest share since March 2021.

It also improved in the 25-54 demo from #10 to #5, and even improved in 18-34.

So obviously the format adjustment worked, and didn't hurt in the key demos.

I'm happy to see the gains. Congrats to KPLX.

Perhaps Cumulus should consider similar moves for a number of its country stations in the Midwest where numbers are languishing.
