March 2022 PPM and an AM surprise

Meanwhile the folks at WFAN are crowing about winning in afternoon drive:

A few years ago, this would have been moot.
And for more than a decade when they were #15 in 12+, they were always #1 in billing.

The signal may be better, but listeners are making their decision on the product.
Correct. WCBS deviates too often from it's format. When I want news I know I can count on WINS, so that's what I tune to. I suspect other listeners have been programmed that way too.

Last week when I saw someone on my social media ,ention that the subway shooting suspect had been arrested I automatically put on CBS 880, to find out more because their signal in my part of Connecticut is better than 1010 WINS because where I live there is a local on 990. Unfortunately CBS 880 was broadcasting an baseball game, so I had to rely on the weaker signaled 1010 WINS for information.

From Inside Radio:
Z100 #2 again.

Remember, radio ad buys pay little or no attention to cume. It's traditionally ratings (not share) and if for a buy that includes new media, impressions. Of course, in radio impressions means "AQH persons".

WLTW was #1 in 25-54 and 18-49 Not too long ago. It's like WLTW and WHTZ traded places

There's another thread discussing Z100 playing currents less frequently than other CHRs, and it seems to be hurting them with younger audiences. The basic rule of thumb is that playing currents more frequently is good for young demos. Right now Z-100 is playing its heaviest hits less than 90 spins a week, which is 20% fewer than other CHRs around the country.

That's interesting. Is WHTZ trying to be more of an adult CHR at this point

WHTZ is still #2 18-34, so the changes haven't hurt their numbers with young people. However, the CHR/Pop target as mentioned in other threads on the site seems to be moreso 18-44 than 18-34, so their 2nd place finish in 18-49 is probably a better indicator of the station's health, anyway.

If im a meter person in ny & happened to listen to Z100 on siriusxm does that count in Z100 ratings ??
I know the billboard charts count siriusxm song plays.

I'd be curious to get a definitive answer on that. AFAIK, SiriusXM does its own research (the exact method is a deep corporate secret) and doesn't subscribe to Nielsen or any other rating service. Unknown to me is whether SXM is encoded to register on a people meter -- and, if it is, whether it shows up as the specific channel being listened to or just as SiriusXM. I've seen all sort of wild guesses on this, but never anything solid enough to accept as fact.

So youre saying since its only on their streaming channel then it proably wouldnt count ??
Guess that makes sense.

Again, everything depends on if, what and how SiriusXM is encoding for PPM. And I'm still waiting for authoritative word on that.
I have asked someone at Nielsen. Probably won't get an answer till tomorrow.
