A Few Houston Radio Notes

What would make more sense would be for iHeart to leverage the stations they already own to augment the KBME coverage. For example, KLVI could augment KBME and the Golden Triangle studios are now located in a shopping center and connected via IP to the transmitter sites. The studios and controls can be located in Houston just as easily. KLVI covers down the coast better than KBME seems to do.

While I'm unsure how much money it would take for that to happen or if iHeartMedia would be willing to spend that kind of cash, it is something that is technically on the table with them only owning 3 FMs in Houston (as opposed to Audacy owning 4).
Is it really "on the table", if there isn't a willing seller?

Keep in mind that Houston and Beaumont /Port Arthur/Orange are separate markets and bought separately by advertisers. There is no gain to combining the two facility-wise.

Anyone else notice the usual translator "suspects" broadcasting with reduced coverage this afternoon? 105.3 and 104.5 seemed weaker than usual on my way to the Bush Airport.

Maybe the FCC is in town? Transmitter issues? Coverage, for once, seemed appropriate for 99 watts.

In Houston, my first guess regarding signal issues is always seasonal atmospherics.

It could also be that the stations were inspected or denounced to the FCC.

If only 713 were still around… then we could get the inside dish.

When I was driving around the Heights at around 1 pm 105.3 sounded as good as always.

No way. I just tuned in at my house on Lake Conroe, K287BQ is blasting away...

They must have returned back to their regularly scheduled ERP by the evening then. Both station are usually flawless around the airport, but this afternoon they had more noticeable drops in stereo when driving through the airport. I would have checked the other translators, but I had a plane to catch and the shuttles don't wait around.

KFNC is either off the air or at reduced power. The same thing cannot be said about their 92.5 translator.

Translator.

That’s a good one. One day we’ll figure out just what the heck it’s translating.

At several checks yesterday KFNC was on the air at normal signal levels, but at a late evening check I was hearing KFTX at my Cy-Fair location. No sign of KFNC.

Keep in mind that heavy tropo from either KWTX or KFTX can overwhelm reception of KFNC in much of the Houston market.

Last night in Waller I was getting KFTX really strong and KWTX weak with no sign of KFNC. When I made the post about it being off the frequency was completely empty

I’m in Cypress and 97.5 seems to be back at full power, although the signal is terrible it is audible.
