Philadelphia radio Ratings

Power 99 (2.0 - 2.4 - 3.6) certainly deserves some thoughts. BEN-FM is over 3 now, so that's good. There's really nothing else of interest jumping out at me. Of course, I'm waiting for all the posts about Rumba's "dismal" 1.3--despite the fact we've discussed at great length what iHeart's strategy is with the station.

WOGL looking strong recently. They had been neck and neck with Ben in the Classic/Adult Hits battle.

WRNB still just scraping the bottom. WTDY still not much better.

And WUMR's "dismal" 1.3 still puts them as the #1 Spanish station in the market. (Albeit, the others are on AM/Translator combos)

Why is WDAS ratings so strong. Is it the fact that there really isnt any competition

It seems that Hip Hop music is starting to recover numbers wise this year with that rise for WUSL, along with other Rhythmic and Hip Hop/R&B outlets like WJMN and WGCI starting to rebound as well. I am definitely curious to see where WUSL ranks in 18-34 and 18-49 in the AllAccess PPM Analysis article tomorrow.

They've had competition. WRNB in many various forms attacked them head-on.

It's a combination of serving your target audience VERY well, and also a bit of Philly loyalty that has helped stations like 6ABC and KYW Newsradio in ways. Listeners/viewers know them, grew up with them, trust them. WDAS-FM is like that to the community they serve.

Mostly everyone tends to stay in their lanes pretty consistently. These lanes may have widened a bit for the B and WOGL with the Breeze demise, buttttttt…..it wasn’t exactly prime sales material, and gaining unsellable ears isn’t cause to break out the bubbly.

That hadn't even crossed my mind. Maybe B and OGL's upticks are simply because Breeze listeners (a.k.a., "advertiser kryptonite") needed somewhere to turn.

Maybe they grew organically in their demos. After all it was only a partial month to be fair. The timing and bump for those two in particular jist seemed to be a coinkydink.

Again, keep wobbles in perspective. Nielsen has an insufficient sample and trouble getting replacement meters due to supply chain issues.

Is there any data on the number of listeners of 103.9 vs 1060? I switched my preset back to 1060 because I travel in and out of the region and 1060 travels so much farther than 103.9, especially at night when I’m headed back into the region and looking for a traffic report.

Not to the public, since it's a straight simulcast, then Nielsen will list it as one line (KYW-AM). Subscribers and/or the station MIGHT, but I' not sure.

Although it was interesting to see (according to AllAccess) the KYW-AM stream and WPHI-FM stream as two separate lines in the Cume list. Glitch? Error?)

It's a special report, and the last time I asked for one for an FM/FM simulcast, it was an extra charge. I believe I heard that now the cost is reduced, but it's not something that anyone gets automatically.

That said, I guess a group that is negotiating a new Nielsen contract could ask for breakouts as an incentive to sign.

Good question. Did you see the same thing on any other website that publishes ratings? This is where I'd ask Lance Venta to give his "expert opinion".
