March 2022 ratings are here!

The April 20th release: Radio Industry News, Radio Show Prep, Radio Promotions, Radio Station Data, Podcast News

Denver's latest Nielsen report is here, and while there is no surprises this time around, Country on KYGO (98.5 FM) is rising at a decent pace, and the current winner is Classic Rock on KQMT (99.5 The Mountain). KOSI 101.1 is officially back to normal (and climbing) three months after the Christmas holiday season. What's weird to me, is that non of the iheartradio stations make it into the top 5 right now, even though they were in January. KOA should eventually make a comeback for baseball season. What's everyone's take on the ratings?

107.5 needs to find a new format; what a disaster.
Yikes, KS107.5 is on a primary signal, and it's performing worse than one of the eastern rimshots! I am glad they added "Mile High Sports 98.1", on HD3, though.

I knew 107.5 wasn't doing great, but 1.3? Rimshot 101.5 did better than them this book at 1.4. That can't happen.

There really isn’t anything else for them to flip to. There’s a classic rocker, an adult CHR, all comedy on a translator, and sports betting in the cluster. And if it still bills decently and hits target demos, they’ll ride this out. If anything, I see more staff changes coming.

Maybe the ratings are a fluke. I don't see Adult hits as an option due to them owning KQMT

That's not at all what I said. Do not put words in my mouth. Look at their numbers over the past six months, and you will see the numbers have been quite poor over most of that stretch.

Their format is geared to young adults; that segment of the population is spending less and less time with FM radio.

Share does not decrease with lower Persons Using Radio (PUR) or now Persons Using Mass Media. There are always 100 shares in any age, gender or ethnic cell. So if a station that targets 18-34 goes down, it is not because fewer young adults are listening to radio... it is because they are listening to other stations.

Share: a station's percentage of all radio listeners in the specific demographic range.
Rating: percentage of all persons (listening or not) in a demo who are listening to a station.

Shares tend to be about 12 times higher than ratings, depending on demo and market.

Sad, but true. Whenever I come across a young adult and even those approaching their 40's and 50's, they almost always will tell me they are on SiriusXM.

Also, my notifications don't want to pop-up half the time for this thread, even though it is a watched thread.

Also a true point. The kids have decided they like KALC and KOSI.

Performance as measured by AQH share, David, should indeed decrease if a station is hemorrhaging AQH listeners at a faster rate than the market overall. If 18 to 34 comprises an ever shrinking slice of the total pie, then a station that is heavily reliant on 18 to 34 year olds is likely to see its overall market share (6+) erode.

Young adult fans of hip-hop have decreased or eliminated their usage of FM radio at a faster rate these past few years than most other groups.

The ratings were fine just a couple of months back

Interesting. Of course, there are over 250 million registered vehicles in the US. Sirius/XM only has around 30 million true (not free sample) subscriptions. So in 7 out of every 8 vehicles, there is not even satellite access.

I don't find younger demos to be heavy Sirius/XM users. Streaming, yes.

So are you saying young people don't listen to FM radio in the car?
Some absolutely do, but that number is shrinking. Luckily for FM, the largest section of the population is still 45+, and they are glued to the band. Just not too many under that.

Edit: Streaming as well as SiriusXM.

Source? Figures? You are guessing based on personal assumptions and observations.
