Browns new radio team

The Browns announced their new radio team for 2022.

As usual, Jim Donovan will be the lead announcer, a gig he has held since the team came back in 1999 (marking his 24th season)

Replacing Doug Dieken - who had been the radio analyst since 1985 (sans the three "inactive years" from 96-98) - in the booth will be Nathan Zegura, who has been the Browns sideline guy and host of Browns Daily since 2014 (he will still keep the latter role)

And on the sidelines will be former NFLer and decade-plus WKNR host Je'Rod Cherry, who will be a hybrid reporter/analyst (he has been part of the network pre and/or post game shows since WKNR became AM flagship in 2013).

Some people are not happy with Nathan taking the gig. They were hoping for Joe Thomas or another former Browns player to join Jim in the booth.

Nathan's been the sideline guy since 2014, and has hosted Browns Daily since then as well - he's pretty much the Browns' main talking head/spin master.

Before joining the Browns, he was a big fantasy football guy ("The Fantasy Consultant") who did shows everywhere (TV, radio, online).

Methinks this new arrangement is to prep Zegura to eventually take over for Jim Donovan down the line. As it sits now, NZ is the Jim Rosenhaus to JD's Tom Hamilton.

Je'Rod Cherry on the sidelines is no doubt to prep him to be Zegura's partner in the booth eventually,

Joe Thomas has said would like the job later on, but with 2 young kids, he doesn't want to do much traveling right now (especially coming off 11 years of it as a player).

Well, Thomas has kinda joined the team.

He'll be doing preseason games on WEWS ABC 5 as the analyst with play by play man Chris Rose (the Cleveland area native who since went on to national gigs with Fox, MLB Network, and now NFL Network).

Could this be JT just dipping his toes in the water to get a feel before diving in down the road?

Maybe.

But for now, this is as far as it goes for the soon to be HOFer.
