WSOC Anniversary

WSOC-TV Channel 9 is now celebrating 65 years of broadcasting. The radio stations 103.7-FM and 930-AM are now separate concerns. Known for Eyewitness News, notable personalities include Jack Callaghan, Bill Walker, Harold Johnson, Cullen Ferguson, Don Griffin, Jerry Peterson, Debi Faubion, Doreen Gentzler, Meg MacDonald, and Janet England and Doug Mayes who moved from WBTV as WSOC became the dominant news station.

I was one night late watching "To Tell the Truth". They said there would be coverage of the anniversary during that show, but of course that was the previous night.

I was always a WBTV viewer for news, but at some point I switched to WSOC and eventually WCNC. The last time I even cared I was watching WCCB.

I had been watching WBTV and the CBS evening news but noticed it seemed like WSOC's local news and ABC World News Tonight both had more content. I didn't count stories but it sure seemed that way.

WSOC has comprehensive coverage of crime but other topics as well. I also watch WBTV but am sad to hear Maureen O'Boyle is leaving in July. A lot of their longtime top talent has retired in recent years.

The truth is I could skip over what I didn't want to see now that I record everything.
