Is Your "The Breeze" HD Channel Gone?

On the Denver page, someone asked why 106.7 KWBL-HD2 The Breeze subchannel has not been broadcasting? Others say The Breeze is gone from their market as well. Yet The Breeze is still being heard in most of the 30-something cities where iHeart put it. It seems The Breeze has lost status with iHeart, coupled with the end of The Breeze 106.1 in Philadelphia, where WISX is now Latin Contemporary. Some folks say iHeart has put a new HD audio service in its place in their city, "Club Jam Country."

Here's the list of Breeze HD channels, according to the legal I.D.s that are heard every hour. I put a * next to the cities where others say their Breeze subchannel is off the air. I'm curious how many markets are no longer running The Breeze. Or for that matter, why was it never heard in some large iHeart markets, such as Houston, Kansas City and St. Louis?

*These stations had The Breeze on a subchannel but have apparently discontinued the service.

^As the flagship station, KSNE Las Vegas carries the programming heard on the iHeartRadio app for "The Breeze." The only legal station identification when you hear when listening to the app is for KSNE-HD2. On the other Breeze stations, you hear all the legal I.D.s scattered at various times during the hour. Since it's feeding the app, KSNE is likely to stay no matter what happens in the other markets.

iHeart had the Breeze (and Alt in a few markets that has also been cut) in all these markets for one purpose and one purpose only: to claim the servicemark for the brands in each state in a first use basis. Now that the Soft AC (and Alternative) boom is over, they're not concerned about retaining the servicemark in many of these areas.

In New York state, where Townsquare launched Breeze's in Albany and Buffalo, iHeart has retained it on WKTU-HD3 for one (and I believe others upstate) to ensure they get the licensing fees for the brand name.

Or for that matter, why was it never heard in some large iHeart markets, such as Houston, Kansas City and St. Louis?

KEGL-HD2 served that purpose for Texas. iHeart does not own any properties in Kansas City.

Portland's Classic Hits KLTH dropped The Breeze and IHeart 60s at the same time, turned off the HD3 and went to a KEX simulcast on HD2. I thought they would eventually switch to IHeart 70s but it didn't turn out that way. This is the second time that IHeart has simulcast KEX on an HD2. I don't think they have a translator this time.

Here is one of them KSNE's Breeze feed. Anytime I think of The Breezes flagship station I think of KISQ San Francisco where the name originated. But in the case of San Francisco and Sacramento the Breeze is on the main feed and is produced by the local Iheart station or voice tracked respectively.

Portland's Classic Hits KLTH dropped The Breeze and IHeart 60s at the same time, turned off the HD3 and went to a KEX simulcast on HD2. That’s sad to hear that KLTH in Portland dropped IHeart 60’s. That was my go to station whenever I visited Portland.

I'm not sure if I am hearing The Breeze, but I just heard an ID for several stations on the network listed above (including KEGL-HD2 Ft. Worth and WNOK HD3 Columbia SC a couple minutes ago. Format sounds like 70s-80s AC/soft classic hits (Eric Carmen's Hungry Eyes into Earth Wind and Fire). KJR FM Seattle HD3.

Yup, that's The Breeze. So are you hearing KJR-FM-HD3? Seattle still has a Breeze HD subchannel as well as Soft AC The Sound KSWD 94.1 on regular FM radio.

^^^^^^ The Breeze is still on KJR-FM-HD3. Playing softer music and it's IDing across the LCD readout of my Sangean HDR-16.

The Breeze has now been removed from KJEB 95.7-HD3 Seattle. Still on in Spokane via KKZX 98.9-HD2. Not sure about Portland.

The generic breeze stream on iHeart is weird in that they run a legal ID. I’d think they would carry the originating feed, but I believe I’ve heard a Legal ID for KSNE-HD2.

That is the originating feed. The Breeze is put together and sweeper voice tracked in Las Vegas and runs off a computer console in a separate studio.

Have any HD Breezes been replaced with another iHeart format-in-a-can, or have they all just been pulled with the station shutting down the HD channel?

As far as I know, the stations have taken the HD channels off.

I would love to see some of the stations replace the HD feed instead with something unique from I-Heart’s repertoire of formats. Throw on I-Heart 50’s or I-Heart 60’s in some markets that don’t have an oldies station or something like that!

The Breeze sounds really thrown together IMO. As far as older music goes, I think Cool Oldies and Big Classic Hits (which are very similar) are a lot better. They have much better presentation, DJ’s, jingles etc.

A format replacement isn't out of the realm of possibility. We'll just have to wait and see.

My question is...Is The Breeze as dying brand or is IHeart being cheap about it???
