KROQ, again

I don't think Weatherly would have taken the job if he didn't have an idea on how he would fix the station. He's probably been thinking about it since he saw ratings decline. As far as his next moves, here's some possibilities:
  • I don't think he will can Kevin Klein as soon as some people on this forum think he might. He paired Klein with Stryker in afternoons, so I am sure he believes in his talent.
  • He will likely pair someone in afternoons with Megan Holiday to try to compete with Booker & Stryker.
  • Events will definitely be coming back.
Honestly, it's incredible for the industry to have a great like Weatherly back in the market. He definitely has the Midas Touch.
 
He pretty much sat on his butt as the station's ratings withered away the first time. He has shown absolutely nothing (in his recent past) that suggests to me he is capable of fixing the station. I believe he is actually a big reason the station faded into relative irrelevance.

Not long after KROQ faced direct competition on a full power signal (98.7), it became the secondary choice for the market's Alternative music partisans. KYSR made knocking off KROQ almost look easy.

There could have been factors you weren't aware of that led to those things.

The "big reason" you refer to is not even local to LA... it is the new owner's management.

Again, the fact that the previous owner wanted to get out of radio and the new owner's top management team does not understand programming are the real issues here.
 
Audacy has - and CBS radio had - plenty of radio stations that were strong performers immediately before and after the sale.

KYSR began making life difficult for KROQ long before CBS decided it wanted out of the radio business. Weatherly simply was out-programmed by the competition.
