I can't lock into the HD signal for KIIS in the area I live. Is KIIS airing their HD1 signal on the HD2 as well? I thought they were airing their Iheart Evolution Dance station.New top of the hour id Say KIIS FM And HD2 Los angeles
I've never heard any station put its primary format on the HD2 stream either. The OP (or someone in Los Angeles with an HD receiver -- there must be a couple of dozen of them, right?) ought to give us more information. Right now, his post only raises additional questions.I thought the primary (analog) format was required to be what's carried on the HD1 stream. Am I wrong?
Yes. It’s interesting for the reasons both KM and CTListener mention. Was this post really needed?
KIIS seems to be having some issues with HD. Lock on HD was in and out for me this morning. There are no HD sub-channels that would lock. I heard the ID just a few minutes ago - Given the context, I'm thinking the ID is intended as KIIS and HD too.I've never heard any station put its primary format on the HD2 stream either. I have heard regular programming on both before on other stations. It’s not common but in cases where they don’t have anything else to do with it but don’t want to turn it off, it fills the space.I've never heard any station put its primary format on the HD2 stream either. My recollection is that Jason is visually impaired, so "HD too" could easily be interpreted by him as "HD2" ... but if it's a legal ID it should be "K-I-I-S-FM and HD, Los Angeles" so I'm still confused.Given the context, I'm thinking the ID is intended as KIIS and HD too.
Wouldn't the legal ID be "KIIS FM and HD-1 (or whatever HD channel is being used for the simulcast of the main signal) Los Angeles"? That's the way I remember the FMs with HD in Hartford doing the ID.My recollection is that Jason is visually impaired, so "HD too" could easily be interpreted by him as "HD2" ... but if it's a legal ID it should be "K-I-I-S-FM and HD, Los Angeles" so I'm still confused.
The "1" in "HD-1" is optional. For example, "KNX AM, FM and HD, Los Angeles".Wouldn't the legal ID be "KISS FM and HD-1 (or whatever HD channel is being used for the simulcast of the main signal) Los Angeles"? That's the way I remember the FMs with HD in Hartford doing the ID.
Thanks for that. So now all we need to figure out is precisely what Jason heard.I just checked and KIIS does not have any additional HD side channels active at this time. If they were, a numbering sequence would have appeared where the red arrow is pointing.

One would have to check the instrument of authorization to be certain, but if there was no AM associated with the calls at the time they were granted (KIIS), the FM would not be required. Example where it is required here in LA is KCBS (there is a KCBS AM in SF) and KNX is another. You won't hear KTWV-FM Los Angeles in that ID for example.Wouldn't the legal ID be "KIIS FM and HD-1 (or whatever HD channel is being used for the simulcast of the main signal) Los Angeles"?
I heard what Jason heard this morning at straight up 6 AM leading into Seacrest and it is posted above - K-I-I-S and HD 2 (too?) Los Angeles. I think it's a poor attempt at play on words. Thanks for that. So now all we need to figure out is precisely what Jason heard.
Thanks for helping out the lazy (me) guy.One could simply look at the database or at fccdata.org and one would see that the callsign is indeed "KIISFM."
That is precisely the case. When KKDJ took on the KIIS branding on October 22, 1975 (simulcast 6am to 6pm and operating separately at night but with the identical format on both), AM 1150 already had the calls and so the FM 102.7 calls were changed to KIIS-FM. The suffix was never dropped (probably because of the "Kiss-FM" branding that has been in effect for decades) and so the suffix is indeed required. One would have to check the instrument of authorization to be certain, but if there was no AM associated with the calls at the time they were granted (KIIS), the FM would not be required.
