Found rick dees on kdgl 106.9 palm springs

I bet it wasnt difficult finding sponsors for Rick's afternoon show. Rick is still popular
Even in palm springs. 1000 dollar fill up 12 times a day. Wow too bad I dont live there. I would love to win.

This subject came up in 2018 when Dees was heard doing afternoon drive on another small station

Turned out he does syndicated dayparts for stations with some local features.

Rick Dees emailed to clarify his role at KQLH-Yucaipa for afternoon drive. “It is only PARTIALLY true,” wrote Rick. “Here is the TRUE report: KQLH begins airing my syndicated Rick Dees – Daily Dees show daily from 2 - 6p starting August 13

Indeed, there is a huge difference between someone being live at a station and a station choosing to carry syndicated programming from that personality.

Current estimated affiliate count worldwide for just the countdown show (both the CHR and AC versions, 80s and 90s version combined) is in excess of 200. Couldn't find any numbers for his voicetracked daily show.

Sounds like the same syndicated show which I listened to briefly on KRQX/Hurricane, Utah recently which airs from 5-10 AM weekdays, and his countdown show airs on Saturdays. Dees has been on the air there for a couple of years now.

Speaking of former LA radio personalities, Lance Ballance (not sure which radio station he worked at and when) has been doing mornings on Awesome 98 (KKCL/Lubbock TX) for a couple of years at least and is listed as the 'Brand Manager', whatever that means.

Lance was at KOST from 1989 to 1998. LinkedIn shows him as Director of Content for Townsquare Media.

Is Lance related to the famous Bill Ballance?

Having recently heard a bit of a new Weekly Top 40 show, Rick's voice sounds old and tired and his on-air schtick older and tired-er. His affiliate list, when compared to his golden years, is miniscule and limited primarily small markets and international affiliates. And unlike the AT40 replays, which sound great and really sound timeless, the 80s and 90s replays of Rick's countdowns are so awfully dated and painful to listen to, I can't imagine airing them.

Rick was good at what he did, but that style doesn't hold up. That he's in his 70s with a voice that sounds it and still trying to appeal to a CHR audience despite not changing his style at all is painful to listen to.

Rick is 72. More power to him. Not many guys have a radio career to that age. If he’s not on many stations, you won’t have trouble avoiding hearing him.

Here an aircheck of Rick Dees when he was a rising star on WHBQ Memphis.

Well you are right Rick Dees peaked in the 1980's and 1990's when he was on KIIS-FM. Then again Rick's former KIIS-FM Spot is now with Ryan Seacrest and Sisanie for nearly 2 decades because of Demos reasons. Note Seacrests show is also on other Iheart CHR and Hot AC stations around the country.

Rick chose not to age with his audience. There are still people in my age group (mostly women) who adore Rick Dees and would love to have heard him these many years. But trying to appeal to younger generations was a terrible move for him and has resulted in a terrible look. He cannot be Ryan Seacrest.

Funny thing, a few weeks ago "Disco Duck" came on the radio when my wife and I were driving. I like novelty records, so this is not a problem for me, but thought she would want me to turn the station. Instead she started singing it! Just goes to show, memories once made can last a lifetime.

Art Laboe is still working and will be 97 this year...he still sounds the same to me as he did when I first heard him in the 1960's!
What is amazing is that stations that carry his show will report young guys in low riders showing up at the station to "say hello". When it is explained that Art does the show from a bunch of different places, they say that is cool and move on.

Art has (and has had since before I was born) an incredible ability to connect with his audience. It's a marvelous thing.
