The (KFRC) Sturgeon Surfaces

Just thought I’d mention that KFRC’s mobile studio from the 1980s and 1990s, affectionately nicknamed “The Sturgeon”, now owned by former 610 staffer Chris Sharp, will be making an appearance at Modesto’s “American Graffiti” festival June 10 (6/10—get it?).

Familiar names from KFRC’s glory days (Bobby Ocean, Mike Novak, Ken Bastida, Sylvia Chacon) will appear, as will Shotgun Tom Kelly, who may be best known as a Southern California jock, but who did a couple of shifts on KFRC in 1982 and 1983..including one from the Sturgeon:

Details are on the Sturgeon’s Facebook page, 610 Sturgeon, and here’s a great piece on how another KFRC alum, Bill Shakespeare, rescued and restored the Sturgeon before selling it to Chris:

Where's Shanna??? KFRC DJ in the 70's anyone know?

So sorry, but All Access reported that Shana passed away in Michigan about a year ago. If you're a member of All Access Music Group (it's free) you can do a search. KFRC was one of the best Top 40 stations of all time, if I may express my opinion.

In my not-so-humble-opinion, those who want to participate more fully here should invest the $0 in a free All Access membership. Their Net News page is a daily must-read for those who want to know what's going on in both the radio and music industries.

Shana died almost seven years ago.

The story is free to read without a subscription at All Access, but KM is right about the upside of subscribing.
