WMEX playing Italian Music!

I just tuned into WMEX and they are playing Italian Music! Is this the start of brokered shows with METV music as filler and no live DJs??

Right now via TuneIn "your friend Ben" is playing Manilow's Copacabana. Was this maybe one song that had been in Italian...or...?
Checking web site.

So what is the deal with Ed Perry selling the station to Larry and Tony? Seems like the studios are still at the WATD building (although probably most everyone is working from home studios). Weather and sports are still WATD sources. Maybe WATD sales people are still involved as well? Must be some agreement there for sharing resources.

BTW I listen while commuting. Paul Perry is doing a great show with lots of good bits mixed in. The signal is good - my route is from the south up 495, 24 to 95. I generally tune in as I'm hitting 24 (yes I could stream it but the my Ford radio does a decent job with AM). I know they are trying to be Quincy/south shore focused but they are covering a good chunk of the metro area beyond that.

speaking of wmex, whatever happened to the two nitwits from the morning show who went off on their own after the station shuttered? they seem to have disappeared. the domain looks like its parked at the moment.

Why did Ed sell WMEX?

Probably because he is stretched pretty thin trying to keep his other stuff up and running, granted WATD FM is well established and has a great competent staff , some I have known personally for quite a while, but the other AM is probably a handful.... and Ed is not a young man.

Plus he had a few hundred grand tied up with it between the license and equipment.

Personally, I thought he was nuts to buy it in the first place, but Ed has made a name for himself doing what others thought was impossible.

I wish Larry Justice and his co-investor all the best. They have a great lineup... and they were smart enough not to bring a certain person back who publicly crapped all over Ed Perry

The nitwits, who think they are the greatest thing ever to hit Boston radio, I believe still have a podcast. Granted, they do have a loyal audience but so does a farm report in the Midwest.

Why did Ed sell WMEX?

It was a classic flip, essentially. Ed got the thing up and running and once it was viable—he flipped it for a very nice profit and essentially a fat regular annuity payment for his semi retirement (90% work lol).

Ed is a BUILDER. He built his fortune discovering available frequencies and building small stations. It’s in his blood. Ed can only full-time operate so long. WATD is essentially his home.

so.. something ive always wondered.. what kind of audience does the new wmex 1510 have... and actualyl really have.. not the djs and their groupies. .and what are they billing?

I beg to disagree, what Ed got for WMEX and the Translator was less than what he could have sold the translator for. The combined price was rumored to be 300K. He bought WMEX with no equipment and no transmitter site for something like 100K, or 125K.... then add on the cost of the translator, the build out of two transmitter sites.

What has Ed sold? He is still holding onto that Brockton AM and the Translator.... I would have dumped that years ago, especially with all the problems he faced getting an antenna site and keeping the STA from running out forcing a deletion of the license.

Ed marches to his own drum... he does things other people would not do and so far it has worked out for him... the people that work for him LOVE him, I have never ever heard anyone say an unkind word about him and I know a lot of people who either work there or have worked there.

I'll say I don't hear many ads on the station. A vacuum cleaner store and a restaurant here and there with some PSA type spots which I assume are free but maybe some of those are paid. I'm hoping they have/get traction on the revenue front since I want them to stick around. The spots they do have seem mostly centered on the south shore which is the home base for WATD so it makes sense but I think they could potentially go outside that area since they are covering a lot more area than that.

to achieve that they need to.. from what im told about the stuff they play.. tighten up the playlist and appeal to the average listener not the groupie or oldies nerd
