KIIS FM leaving SiriusXM on 5/31

KIIS FM is being removed from SiriusXM effective 5/31 and will be replaced with SXM’s Yacht Rock channel over the summer. What will replace it permanently is not yet known.

Also, Z100 and KIIS will be departing from the SXM streaming app.

SXM's Yacht Rock channel is far superior to KIIS, so this seems like a smart move. SXM Yacht Rock also has less repetition.

As far as the stations leaving the line-up, I think this has to do with some legal agreements made long ago between SXM (Just XM at the time if I remember correctly) and CC which required SXM to carry a certain number of CC (now iheart) stations. I think the stations are going away as the expiration date for those agreements has been reached.

I understand this move because KIIS sticks out like a sore thumb among all the adjacent commercial-free channels, but I will be sad to see it go. I think the satellite-delivered top 40 options are pretty weak compared to most markets (Hits 1 is my first preset).

Also, I have found that KIIS seems to have by far the best audio quality among the pop channels, which I suspect is because it has the largest bandwidth allocation.

Not that I liked any of the CC/iHeart offerings on XM then SXM, but I found it to be just as foolish to have the signal on satellite. My take was the same as the deal to simulcast Opie and Anthony on FM and XM. If someone is listening on XM, then it does nothing to help listenership for advertising on the FM signal. Modernly, anyone in-market and out of market can listen on the iHeart Radio app.
