The candle budget is rising, but not un-doable, hi.
That's the key to good DX these days--turn off the router.

Thanks for the relay, Taylor. Yeah I'm back home from work right now and sadly there's nothing showing up on the SDR. Maybe ES will have to wait another day here in SoCal.

The only two things I MAY have possibly had as I was driving home from work was some talk station discussing Mt St Helens on 92.1, and perhaps some T40/Pop playing Breathin' by Ariana Grande on 94.5. Both were around 8:10 PM PT.

E-skip was weak but audible around 7:30-7:45PM tonight. One new log plus some relogs, all from northern NM.

- 95.9 KKIT Taos NM w/ ID 'The Mountain' and top 40/pop music. Relog (1061 mi)
- 92.7 KBQL Las Vegas NM w/ ID 'Rim Country's 92.7 the Bull' and Real Country format. Relog (1118 mi)
- 96.1 KXJR Chama NM w/ many local ads, adult contemporary music, ID 'Chama Radio KXJR, 96.1 the Eagle'. Terrible audio quality, sounds like it's originating from an AM radio. However, this is the first NEW E-skip log for 2022! (998 mi, 2.5KW)
It's NEW number 900-something, but I still need to wrap up my 2021 recordings to find out!

Scratch that, KNCM came in not too long ago, but strangely was the only ES on the band. Lasted for about a minute fading in and out, good sig enough to decode RDS.

All the while, WWV on 25 MHz is still quite strong here, indicative of a strong localized ionosphere in the region. Will keep listening.

As of 10:15pm CDT, KVTT in Mineral Wells TX (DFW), normally daytime only, is at local strength here in Houston with South Asian pop music and ID's as 1110 am, 95.5 FM and 104.9 FM. Presumed-KFAB is way underneath. Listed at 50kw daytime, this should get out pretty well.

Conditions really southern-oriented tonight.

Thanks for the heads up. 1110 is pretty clear around here at night, so I'll have to check things out tonight and see if KVIT is still at it.

Today looked like a good day with a nice FM Sporadic-E opening here in SoCal to NM, TX, OK, KS, and even CO. Paths started shorter and then elongated, then a slight change back to short before going back to the Plains. Opening went to the top of FM band. Logged about 30 stations, most iirc were relogs. I'll have to look back at my IQs to see what else I got.

Lots of E-skip reception from Mexico around 2 pm today, reaching at least 104 mhz. Some of what I received in Picayune, Mississippi:

88.5 XHFW Tampico, Tamaulipas - Hits FM
89.3 XHTOT Pueblo Viejo, Veracruz
89.5 XHRRR Encarnacion de Diaz, Jalisco - Grupo ZER RRR
90.1 - RDS format shows Soft Rock
90.5 XEDA Mexico City - Imagen Radio (news/talk)
91.3 XHPLA Aguascalientes - La Mexicana (grupera)
92.7 XHEAAA Guadalajara, Jalisco - Radio Mujer, very strong signal with full RDS
96.5 XHZER Zacatecas - Stereo Zer (Regional Mexican)
102.7 XHPQUI Tequisquiapan, Queretaro - K Digital - HD call sign showing
102.7 pop format that was most likely XEHL Guadalajara - Los 40
103.5 XHRX Cerro Grande Santa Fe, Jalisco - La Tapatia (grupera)

Nice!

A pipeline to Phoenix for about a half-hour this evening, with special appearances by 93.7 KRQQ in Tucson (plus likely KUAT-90.5 and KCMT-92.1).
Heard KPNG 88.7, KFLR 90.3, KTAR 92.3, KDKB 93.3, KOAI 95.1, KYOT 95.5, likely KSWG 96.3, KMVA 97.5, KMVP 98.7, KALV 101.5, likely KNIX 102.5, and KZZP 104.7. UNID SS religious on 91.7 (Douglas AZ?) and unid 96.7's with SS ranchera + rock (likely Nogales SON / Williams AZ). I might have Nogales logged already.

Big FMBC Sporadic-E openings here in Northern California on the 27th and 30th of May.

27th was lots of West Texas. The 30th big opening was weird. At 9:30pm it opened wide to Seattle and Vancouver. Both resulted in top of the band openings.

The Seattle opening happened at 9:30pm at night. I did manage to get two Portland, OR stations from that both with RDS. 92.3 KGON and 97.1 KYCH. Both are under 600 miles...

There was a much weaker opening on the 30th before the Seattle one that resulted in ND, WY, and MT logs.

I could post logs but clogging the thread with 70+ logs may not be the best idea :)

Overall, A incredible May here for Sporadic-E.

The Seattle Opening was on May 29th local time rather. Got caught up in UTC time :)

Very good and welcome to the board.

Is that you Eric? I hope it is :)
Saw those logs and earlier I had Phoenix to 104.7 KZZP. Nothing from eastern WA?

Figured that might be you Taylor.

And no focused on Seattle, Tacoma to Vancouver. Victoria, BC mixed in there too.

As a side note there was lots of HD stations with very strong sidebands to the Seattle area.

One reason why I left and will never return to the Seattle-Tacoma area. FM DX nearly impossible with HD hash, translators, and now LPFMs.

Yesterday's ES opening to far east TX.. was a weird one.

The only thing I can deduct it down to was that the patch was located in eastern NM, a bit far out of range for single hop but just barely enough to manage ES. Nothing above 94 MHz.

Even weirder, because of the fringe single hop range, more than half of skip stations weren't to discernable, and barely came out of the noise floor. Naturally with this, many stations that came in didnt have enough signal strength for RDS to decode. To add, this opening came in waves where the waterfall would show faint to light fades and then go back to normal for 10 minutes or so. This would repeat for nearly an hour. Suffice to say, it was at least nice to see a 1400+ mi. ES catch at this point of the season.

Let's see what June has in store.
