The Breeze

Having that one stream with all of the stations being identified at the same time was their way of programming it without having to have it fed locally. Initially those HD subs were fed by a NexGen system in each local studio. They've been phasing that out in most cases. WLIT HD2 in Chicago in particular went from feeding it locally to that national stream about a year before they shut the whole thing down.

When they initially started launching these feeds to protect the brand, they were doing it regionally. In Milwaukee, it was on WKKV HD2. At first they were running the same webstream as Madison, and Minneapolis and all 3 stations got an ID at once until they got things up and running on a local level. What they did not realize was there was already a station in the Milwaukee area (Particularly neighboring Sheboygan) called "The Breeze", so they pulled all imaging and just ran the music with a legal ID on the HD2 until they turned it off in 2020. None of this served any purpose other than to prevent companies like Entercom from using "The Breeze" like they did in Detroit.

Speaking of HD Radio on IHeart stations, Z100 now has an HD2, after an absence of several years. It is currently rebroadcasting the programming on the HD1.

With about a 10-second delay, so in case you just missed something on HD1, you can flip over to HD2 and catch it again.

I have seen the future of HD Radio -- someday, all HD2s, 3s and 4s will be rebroadcasts of HD1s, each ten seconds delayed from the last. No one will ever miss a phone number, song of the day, or secret word to text in for a chance to win thousands of dollars in a nationwide contest again!

LOL. Pure genius!
WFUV HD2 on weekdays has been rebroadcasting the HD1 with a slight delay, for years. Could they not find something else to throw on there?
WBLS HD2 is continuing their seemingly endless tribute to a rap singer.

>>>They initially did but then they did the entire list. It took over 20 minutes to get through the list.<<<

What dji means is that every 20 minutes or so, The Breeze would give the legal I.D.s of about a third of the stations that carry it. So each I.D. got read once per hour. It didn't take 20 minutes to read the list. That wouldn't leave much time for playing music! The person reading the I.D.s did each one really fast but I don't think he sped up his voice. And you could hear when he took an existing list and added another I.D. or two as new stations affiliated. There'd be a longer pause between the new station and the older ones.

I remember that he got one of the I.D.s wrong but nobody ever caught it. At the end of one list, he'd say "WPTI-HD2 Greensboro." WPTI is in the Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point market. But it isn't licensed to any of those cities. It should have been "WPTI-HD2 Eden."

Would iHeart maintain one HD channel to feed an online stream for The Breeze format, or do they really want to get it eliminated?

iHeart has three AC stations on their app and HD2s. There’s Sunny Radio which is a lot of 70s/80s, Lite Rock, a gold heavy soft AC, and Soft Rock is a mainstream AC format. The Breeze fits between Sunny and Lite Rock.

IHeart may have dropped another HD subchannel. WAXQ 104.3 is currently only broadcasting on HD1. The HD2, which simulcast WOR 710 AM is not present at this time.
Perhaps it will be moved to WHTZ 100.3 HD2? I'd be surprised if there is no longer a rebroadcast of IHeart's local AM station on HD. Most major AM stations in New York have HD simulcasts.

Another country HD for New York City? Why?
Back when IHeart had Country on HD radio in New York, there were personalities from their national programming, including the Bobby Bones morning show. That would be more interesting than what Audacy is offering on 94.7, which only has one hosted show.

Standards is way too old. That demo has really died off. My dad's generation. Still think a 60s 70s based oldies format can work in most markets if you understand it will be all local direct business, 55 plus will be the target. But if you are a bottom feeder in the ratings in a market why not try it?

Because trying to sell one-off ads to local "mom and pop" businesses isn't a viable business strategy.
