Andre Knott to WKNR

WKNR ESPN 850 has brought in Andre Knott as a contributor and fill-in/part time host.

He will retain his other gigs as Guardians field reporter on Bally Sports Great Lakes, and contributor/sports reporter on WJW Fox 8.

I'm just wondering out loud - could this be 850's way of easing Andre in as he may be the heir apparent to Tony Rizzo on RBS?

Rizz is 61, and is vocal about wanting to ease his workload (remember he recently ended his TV show on Fox 8, due to his age and kids now being out of college - implying that it was always just a side gig to pay tuitions).

Surprised that Andre is back at WKNR. I thought WTAM would bring him back or even The Fan would bring him on. I also thought he would get a larger role at Fox 8 after John Telich had retired.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Andre take over Je’Rod’s prior role as co-host for Browns radio pre/post and be a fill-in for Nathan Zegura on the sidelines (a role Andre had prior to the Browns taking the radio network in-house). Je’Rod is a workhorse but even he has his limits.

Not so fast...remember, the Guardians play through just about the entire month of September, so Andre has prior engagements.

The easiest thing to do would be to have 92.3's Dustin Fox take over Cherry's pre/post duties.

Also remember, Je'Rod is working the sidelines - Zegura will be in the booth with Jim Donovan doing a "Hammy and Rosey" style arrangement (and as I said before, my spider sense tells me NZ is being groomed to take over for Donovan down the road, with Cherry then joining Zegura in the booth).

It’s fine, I simply got the roles reversed for those two by accident. That arrangement is far more realistic.

I can see Andre potentially being set up as a successor for Rizz, but it’ll probably be gradual like how Lanigan eventually bowed out, and even then, they’ll probably have Rizz doing stuff on a ceremonial level long after.

I have no idea how much of a workload Andre has with Bally’s (prep time prior to Guardians games, et al) but it’s probably substantial.

No big deal.

Knott being the Nolan to Rizzo's Lanigan is very much a realistic scenario, and all the more possible given that Rizz is a Lanigan disciple and knows the playbook first hand.

Now the one fly in that ointment is for him to be the RBS heir apparent, Andre would have to give up the Guardians gig, because no way he (or anybody) could do both.

And Tom Hamilton and Rick Manning - who in a couple of years will both be the big 7-0 - how much longer will they go, and could Andre want those slots?

Andre is actually kind of in the catbird's seat, because he could potentially be in line to replace any one of three icons if the cookie crumbles the right way

Knott is good at what he does, although I could live with substantially trimming the laughing at inside jokes between him, Manning and Underwood. I just don't see him moving up to do play-by-play either on radio or television. He seems like a natural as a talk show host, much more than a playcaller.
When any of the current crew go, Knott included, someone unfamiliar to or inexperienced in the Guardians booth will have to come in mostly because their broadcasting depth is woefully lacking.
I see Jim Rosenhaus deservedly taking over for Hamilton when the latter retires. He is more than capable but takes his share of criticism simply because he isn't Hamilton.
I am surprised Hamilton and Manning have not cut back more already. Both of them will be 68 just a few weeks apart late this summer, although they have the entire winter off to recharge. I haven't seen Hamilton do any college hoops in several years.
Hamilton seems to skip some trips, but not all that many. It feels like Manning does just about every game, his and Matt Underwood's recent COVID-related absence notwithstanding. Even when they were out, Al Pawlowski and Jensen Lewis called the A's series from Cleveland apparently because Bally has no one else to fill their pre- and post-game roles.
