WALL Radio Line Up Changes

I noticed recently Van Ritshie had disappeared from WALL completely. He had been morning show host 6-10 AM, followed by Kate Brannen mid-days. More recently he had split mornings with Kate doing 6-9 AM , and Van 9-12. Noon to 3PM was filled in by "Silent Mike", a kind of creative way of saying automation with no host . Then Van apparently left the station and Kate took over 6-10, with midays jockless err with "Silent Mike".
As of today "Silent Mike" is relegated to overnights and mid-days are filled by long time favorite Hudson Valley Michelle Taylor
Also seemingly with little notice last fall another area veteran of several Poughkeepsie area stations ( WSPK,WBWZ, WCZX), DJ Mark Bulger resumed his radio career doing weekends 12-5PM. Mark has been a car dealer ( still is) since he was let go from WCZX. Apparently the draw to do what he loved, even part time was too strong.
Scott Fybush's North East Radio Watch also reports Joe Daily will be doing weekends on WALL , but I don't seem him on the schedule.

And it looks like Van Ritshie is back on WGNY-FM’s “Fox Oldies” to do mornings for the first time since 2015 and moved Bob O back to middays, and “Sunny Joe” has been let go from the station about a month and a half ago where Caroline Barton took over before Bob O returns to middays, and I’m not a fan of Caroline Barton at all. So I flipped to other stations to get a better jock like Race Taylor on WCBS-FM. But thankfully I’m glad to hear Bob O back to middays.

That was unexpected. I thought he finally retired; he is in his late 70's. So WGNY is back yo the same lineup they had 7 years ago. And Van is back in his coveted morning drive slot he was pushed out of by Kate Branagan a year or so ago.

The link does not work, and Sunny Joe is not listed on the station's website. Not that it matters, Oldies 98.1 is just a translator Of WPTY 105.3 HD2 signal with on Patchogue, NY, Long Island and does not reach this area. Most of it's personalities are syndicated. Here in the Hudson Valley 98.1 is WKZE Salisbury, Connecticut.
However, Disney, M&T Productions, you must stick to facts too. Sunny Joe is no longer on WGNY that is obvious. But unless you have inside information, you don't know why or if it was voluntary or not.

Sunny Joe isnt on the Oldies 98.1 schedule anymore either.

AS for slander and the other nonsense here... i really dont think any of this comes close to that.. its just a bunch of radio geeks guestimating and conversing about what may or may not have happened.

I know. notice i said "not on the schedule anymore" implying he once was....

Back in an archive.org capture of the site from march they didnt have nights.... now, today scotty hart is listed...... it seems liek they update their site. one can only guess maybe sunny joe isnt even at oldies 98.1 anymore.
Maybe “Sunny Joe” has either let go, or possibly not happening, maybe he might go some place else, but I’m not sure. I haven’t listened to “Oldies 98.1” yet, but I’ll have to check, if not, I’ll stick with Jimmy Howes on WALL for now.

Maybe “Sunny Joe” might end up going to WLNG replacing Brian “The Cannon” Bannon in afternoons and move Chris Buckhout back to middays which is a great fit for the station, let’s see if “Sunny Joe” ends up on WLNG in the future as more updates follows.

I agree, WGNY should be playing more 70s and devoting the format to a "more music" (jingle ) late 60s to mid 70s sound nothing into the encounters of the third kind 1977 that's when the music changed in my opinion.
WGNY has lots of homework to finish if they want to get an audience listening to them.

But the biggest problem that WGNY made, is that they are now playing just 50’s and 60’s music, and it plays zero 70’s songs. So that why “Fox Oldies” got rid of the 70’s music big time and concentrating on music from 1954 through 1969, and that’s it! No 70’s on WGNY.

WBPM on the other hand plays a lot of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s songs with a few 60’s thrown in, and WGHQ is now playing 50’s through the 90’s, and so does WROW.

I’m glad that WGHQ is doing an splendid job blowing up WGNY out of water and does a lot better than “Fox Oldies”, because it’s has better listening audience than “Fox Oldies” did.

And to get back to WGNY, over the 4th of July weekend, they used to have a special weekend playing songs by The Beach Boys, and what happened, there’s no Beach Boys songs at all, except a few to none. So this is why WGNY got rid of the 70’s music completely and focusing on 50’s and 60’s songs with no 70’s. What a dumb idea! I hope WGNY needs to sell the station to Pamal and put WGHQ to 98.9 to get a much better signal where it reaches Poughkeepsie and maybe WGNY-FM needs to change the call letters to WGHQ-FM.

Once is Pamal buys 98.9, WGNY-FM’s “Fox Oldies” is going to die very soon. This is going to be a lot of speculation whether WGNY continues to lose its listening audience to either WGHQ or WBPM, and to WABC on weekends where Cousin Brucie is on Saturday nights with Vinnie Medugno and Tony Orlando, and on Sunday’s with Joe Piscopo with the music of Frank Sinatra and Deana Martin as well.

Tell WGNY to change the format to a soft oldies format and put WGHQ’s “Magic” over to 98.9 and call it “Magic 98.9” WGHQ-FM.

That makes sense.. a soft Oldies station would be good on WGNY FM. WJGK should put Magic 92.5 on 103.1 FM on their station instead of Energy 103.

No! I’m talking about “Magic 98.9” which is the one I am predicting.

I just found out that WJGK dropped “The Fox” and rebranding itself as “Energy 103” as of this year and it is still an AC station and they are still comp with WHUD and WRNQ’s “Q92” which is a big problem, and WGNY-FM’s dumped “Fox Oldies” to call it “Oldies” which is a big mistake, and that happened about 8 years ago where they dropped “Fox” from its monikers and you still hear “Fox” name on their oldies station with the weather jingle, and of course, that godawful “Fox Oldies” PAMS jingles is annoying, and I still hate it, but it needs to go, and getting rid of 70’s music and concentrating the music from 1954 through 1969 which is pre-1970 oldies is a big mistake, as well as playing the sweeper and segues twice which is also the big problem. And eliminating a special weekend including an “All-American Weekend” with The Beach Boys which is also a no-brainer. That’s why I don’t listen to the station anymore, so I moved on and made the switch to WGHQ’s “Magic 92.5” which is way, way better than WGNY-FM’s “Oldies 98.9”. And that’s why you don’t update the oldies format. Bad move!

I hope “Oldies 98.9” should die until the Poughkeepsie Spring ratings comes out, and if the folks at Sunrise Broadcasting is not getting their act together, just sell the station to Pamal and move WGHQ’s “Magic 92.5” over to 98.9 call it “Magic 98.9” and change the call letters from WGNY-FM to WGHQ-FM and maybe it will get a better signal when it reaches Poughkeepsie, and that might work too.

I found a playlist over at TuneGenie to see what just happened since the station doesn’t allowed to play 70’s music anymore. Look at it!

And look at the other playlist for WGHQ which it has much better playlist. Take a look.
